  1. Thanks for your comments. Yes, I have had a couple requests for TN. I might have to work up a design after the first of the year. For some reason Texas has been popular lately. The nearest I've been to Texas doing shows is Ocean Springs, MS.
  2. They are now bb
  3. Thanks all for your replies. Lots of good info. bb
  4. I'll be presenting a workshop on the scroll to interested members of our local woodworkers club. I want to recommend some books for beginners. Any suggestions? thanks, bb
  5. The others are on my website: www.pickenspuzzles.com bb
  6. Yes, I designed the KY tray puzzle for a person who wanted 6 for Christmas gifts. I will design a new state wildlife puzzle if I have an order for 5+. Currently I have designs for 10 states mostly in the southeast but as far west as TX. Thanks for your nice comments. bb
  7. Recently had a request for a Kentucky Wildlife puzzle! And here is the result. 12.5" x 5.25" x 3/4" and a tray type puzzle. I provide one solution but there are multiple solutions. All animals are native to the Commonwealth Kentucky. The tray is stained but the animals are natural hardwoods and oiled. bb
  8. It's only "noise" when you consider what you can cut with a superior blade! bb
  9. Len, Big Canoe is a private residential community in the North Georgia mountains, about 90 minutes north of the Atlanta airport. Lots of retired folks live here! Our woodworkers club started in 2015 with 8 members and has now grown to around 40 members. https://www.bigcanoe.com/ One of our members built a beautiful canoe and it is displayed in our clubhouse. I don't think it has even been in the water. bb
  10. I paid $100 for a little used hawk mid 1990's vintage. Seems to run OK without any vibration. My DeWalt 788 is better suited for really fine work with jeweler's blades and FD puzzle blades however. bb
  11. Woodcraft catalog carries the King saw but not our local Woodcraft Georgia store. Many questions regarding how King handles warranty work in the USA and are there any service centers in the USA. We need to hear from King on this one. Shipping a problematic saw back to Canada would be very expensive(ouch). bb

  13. Big Canoe Woodworkers Club Donates 100 Puzzles to “Toys for Tots” November 10, 2017 On opening day for the Pickens County(GA)Toys for Tots program, the Big Canoe Woodworkers Club donated 100 wooden puzzles for the local Toys for Tots campaign. Several members made the puzzles under the guidance of Brian Beals with Pickens Puzzles LLC, also a member of the club. Others in the club donated wood for the puzzles. Pictured are Chuck Fleming with the Toys for Tots program, Claude Drevet, Terry Nicholson, Brian Beals, Cecil Schneider, and Amy Brannon-Hamby with the Toys program. Yours truly is the one holding the butterfly puzzle. bb
  14. A friend just bought a Porter Cable saw from Lowes. He intends to return it because of a bad vibration and difficult blade replacement. For the $$ I don't think you can beat the DeWalt. bb
  15. I tried that pattern a couple years ago because I thought it was a winner . Thought it would sell but it was a bust! Wound up giving them away to a local charity. Hope you do better. bb
  16. The accompanying sign should read: Watch out for flying saucers! cups too. bb
  17. D&D Sawblades in PA has 10 metal cutting Pegas blades. You can call them at 610-381- 2286 for a recommendation on which one to use on copper. http://www.dndsawbladesonline.com/page/79820204 bb
  18. Very interesting. Appears there is a different culture in various Woodcraft stores. Some are company owned and some are franchises. Culture depends on the manager as well. I have nothing but praise for the Roswell, GA Woodcraft store managed by Robert. Several years ago I was in desperate need of a scroll saw with a show just weeks away. The store was sold out of DeWalt saws so they loaned me a saw from their classroom until inventory was replenished. And a few months ago I wanted to check out the new jet saw. I took some blades and wood to the store and they willingly let me try out the saw for perhaps 30 minutes. Nothing but praise for our local Woodcraft store. bb
  19. Unique and great job. Have you thought about putting a hare inside instead of the squirrel? Maybe even a rabbit/hare puzzle. bb
  20. Great job Scott! If you'd like to share I'd be interested in the terms you have with the gift shop. I have a dynamite NC Wildlife puzzle that I sell for $48. I can't come down too much on it and shops would have to mark it up too much where it wouldn't sell. Going from the craft shop to retail seldom works out because retail want to mark things up 100+%. bb
  21. My local Woodcraft does not have the King saw; they only stock DeWalt and Jet saws. I asked the same question and the guy at Woodcraft had no answer but to say: "Good question". King needs to get a handle on this if they want to sell saws in the USA. bb
  22. I leave my dust collector on rather than off/on switching. I have a similar question on my new Ford truck. The engine shuts off after a few seconds when I stop for a traffic light, etc and then restarts when I remove my food from the brake pedal. It is supposed to improve gas mileage but I'm wondering whether it is worth the wear and tear on the starter. comments? bb
  23. I just had the opposite experience last Sat at an Oktoberfest event within a private community. Lots of invited guests by residents too. Beer, German food, Oompah Band and 50 vendors from mary kay to yours truly the puzzleman. Fantastic sales for one day but the clientele is my target customer: wealthy educated grandparents(especially grandmothers) and parents. bb
  24. I'm appalled. Sure thought the venue would have been perfect for the Hot Dog Stand! Chalk that up to &%#$ Happens. bb
  25. Iggy needs to reply on the $850 machine since it is a Bushwhacker model. Re the $275 machine: it looks like something is missing on the blower assembly. Looks like they might have just taped the hose to the rigid arm to do the job. Any idea of the year of manf? Several months ago I bought a 1998 used Hawk like the model shown as a backup for $100. Recently dusted it off when my DeWalt went in the shop. The only problem I had was with the air blower assembly. The part which the air hose attaches broke off but I was able to mend with epoxy. So far the machine works quite well. I've been cutting hardwood puzzles with Pegas MG #5 and #7 blades. For the record I am not a Hawk fan as I had to return a saw to RBI because of excessive vibration which they could not solve. Must have been around 2010 + or -. But I must say this 1998 model is running quite nicely. Advice: test out the saw before you buy. $275 seems reasonable if it is in good shape. Offer less however. I'm assuming the Bushton folks still sell parts for repair. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Bushton has the owners manual online for free or they can sell you a DVD for a nominal fee. bb
