  1. Hey, I really like New Zealand and have even thought of living there. But, a price like this for Baltic Birch Plywood is a strong deterrent. It makes me wonder about just how expensive other woodworking supplies and tools would be.
  2. Both for me as well. Usually up to 120 grit on both sides before sawing, up 120 grit on the back after sawing, and up to 220 grit on the front after sawing.
  3. Nice! I find myself using cut-offs from my "real" woodworking projects for at least half of my scroll-saw projects.
  4. I like this technique!
  5. I really don't have a favourite and I am in awe of the many great designers whose patterns I have used. But, I will say the person with the most challenging patterns is Mike Williams. When I complete a piece that uses one of his patterns, I feel that I really have accomplished something.
  6. Interesting card Don. I await seeing what you do with a scroll saw pattern inspired by it.

  8. Thanks Travis.
  9. I missed this when Steve posted it. Now that I know about it, I will make one. George, I like your addition of the Exacto knife hole.
  10. I never even thought of such a possibility. Well done!
  11. By the way, if anyone plans to use a team's logo in this way, they should first get permission from the team.
  12. Thanks Wayne. I was born in Hearst but left for higher education and then for work. But, I still have a cabin north of Hearst where I spend a couple of weeks every year.
  13. I have a (non-paying) commission to produce 6 limited edition framed wooden logos for the Hearst Lumberjacks Junior A Ice Hockey team. The money raised by the sale of these will go to charity. The pattern was created by mahendra (see the thread: ) then I made a few small changes to his pattern. The foreground was cut from 3mm thick Baltic Birch plywood. Portions of the foreground were painted with acrylic paints. The background is 15mm thick walnut plywood and the frame is solid walnut.
  14. LUCKY YOU!
  15. Ash is among my favourite woods to cut.
  16. The new thing that I have tried is making compo8nd cuts. The results of this effort can be found in the thread:
  17. I really like the way that you framed this!
  18. Welcome Keith. And yes, Winnipeg does qualify as the great white north. I, on the otherhand, currently live in the rather wimpy slushy region of Canada called Toronto. We seldom get "real" winter here. I've learned a great deal from the members of this forum and hope that you have a similar experience.
  19. I switched from blue painters tape to shelf paper about six months ago and find that it is both easier to apply and to remove. Since I refuse to shop at Wal Mart, I am happy to report that such shelf paper is available elsewhere.
  20. Changed Pattern Types to Fretwork, Portraits
  21. Almost all the patterns are of animals, are at the advanced level, and should be cut using a spiral blade. A search facility is provided. Patterns can be ordered in either black and white or in greyscale. The greyscale patterns have a solid line on the outside of the regions to be cut out and I find them much easier to use than simple black and white patterns. I have cut two of Mike's patterns and each of them took more than 24 (mostly enjoyable) hours to cut.
  22. Contains a good variety of FREE patterns by many different designers. There are many patterns that could be tackled by people new to the hobby. But, I'm somewhat disappointed that I browsed the site for about and hour and found no pattern that I wanted to utilize (that's probably my problem rather than the site's problem).
