  1. Wow, that is nice, I especially like the baseball touch on the base
  2. Very nice
  3. I had to google that one. The pics on the net seem to show the same concept for changing sizes or grits, so I not sure what the advantage is?
  4. Thanks for another idea, I'll try that one too
  5. I'll try it, thanks
  6. There is an old cowboy saying, "be quick to help, and slow to ask for it", but here I am. What is the secret to getting the drum sleeve on the drill drum sanding attachment ( see pic for I am talking about) I have 1. removed the mounting (squeeze screw) and rolled the rubber under pressure 2. after doing #1, I sprayed the rubber with dry silicone lube 3. I froze the rubber (well it works to put a steel gear on machined shaft) and all I can get is the sleeve about 3/4 of the way on the rubber. Jim
  7. Very nice clean cutting, and as said the wood is beautiful
  8. So different back then - that sums it up really really well. Several years ago we were in vegas for a clothing convention, my wife has a store, as we wandered from vendor to vendor there was one from Korea. While she was talking business I talked to a young man in his 20's. When he found out I spent 3 years on the DMZ (two tours) he excused himself and went to talk to the old old man in a rocker. He came back helping the old man walk and he handed me a business card with a number on the back, and told me his family wanted to thank me for keeping them free. The old guy's card gave us 50% off his already low cost wholesale price for life. The look in the old mans eyes, knowing what he had experienced, and his emotion just nailed me to the wall. First time since 1969 when I was drafted went that anyone ever thanked me.
  9. Great cutting, and the frame is awesome too
  10. I know, feel deeply about it, that where ever he is, he will know and smile Funny not to get all sappy, but when I finished the plaque, I got this really strange feeling, good but strange
  11. Yes, Dad retired while I was in HS, a couple of years later I was drafted, served from 1969 - 1989
  12. Thanks to all the veterans, this is veterans day I did this some time ago to honor my Dad. From the beach at Normandy, to the Battle of the Bulge to VE day, the landing at Inchon, Korea, and Nam he served. All told my grandfather, my Dad, and I have 77 years of Military service.
  13. Last 4 months have been an emotional terror. My wife had a spot on her lung, test after test and no pathologist could identify it, Lung surgery on the right upper lobe, the surgeon comes out and says "pathology still does not know what it is, but what we do know is that it is not cancer or malignant." No way explain the feeling I had at that moment. So I drew this up, and will give it to her on xmas eve.
  14. A really great pattern and cutting, love it,
  15. Typically when you connect the camera and tell the computer to download pics, there is an option setting, download & delete, download all, download new. Before you start the download look around for it, and / or google that piece of software looking for that answer
  16. Very very nice. I still play but only real darts, hate those electronic plastic things
  17. Dave I'm fairly new at this addiction too, all the advice for practice and blades are spot on, what I did discover is that I cut better if I am rotating the piece clockwise, I think having the teeth on the inside of the fretwork helps. The blade normally pulls to the right, so when does it is in a waste area of the pattern Jim
  18. @ Obsessed Scroller - yes that is an LED light. My porter cable came with a light aimed at the blade, I was astounded that a "premium" saw did not. @ Jim - That is why I want her to start scrolling - once she starts the whole shop will get cleaned, right now she says that is my domain. :-)
  19. No, the dust collector kept getting clogged so I took it off and the sawdust and drops would fall to the floor and on me. edit: I don't know who make it or sells it, the wife had someone drop off a box of misc stuff at her consignment store and she asked if I could use it. It clamps on the back of the list arm.
  20. Another thread referred to an ex-16 for sale and when I looked at the picture, I really liked the shelf it was on. so I made one, now sawdust and fretwork drops do not fall on the floor or me. Later when I relocate my shop vacuum outside I will duct the table itself where it needs to be. If you are thinking of something like this .... be warned. Whoever makes the ex has a perverted sense of humor. The mounting bolts for the saw to the stand are 12mm hex head, both the bolt and the nut (at least mine are). But the threads are 5/16-18 SAE. When you go to buy longer bolts, you are also changing the bolt head wrench size. The shelf is 24x24 inches, old piece of plywood I had, plus the stick edging
  21. I got one after it was mentioned here, wouldn't be without it I took an old corded 1/4 inch drill and made a platform to strap it to. Wired in a household light switch, I hang it on the wall and clamp it in place when I need it (limited space or too many things on the work bench)
  22. Needle files as stated, and Emory boards from the cosmetics department. A razor knife will cut the Emory board lengthwise as thin as you need it.
  23. WOW! Absolutely beautiful work, and the end product is awesome
  24. The wife is thinking of taking this hobby up, I expect her to outgrow my starter saw and I can see an ex in the future, but that one is just too far away. I really Like, the platform under the saw itself - can't believe I never thought of that, so thanks for the link and the idea. Jim
  25. I am late as usual, but as a kid my Dad always dragged a wood screw across a bar of soap before using it. I hold the soap bar against the blade and let it move up and down a time or two - not sure if it actually helps, I think it does.
