  1. Really nice work, kudo's
  2. I imagine y'all are getting tired of these, but each time I do one, I am less and less frustrated and starting to enjoy the work, and that means I want to share. ROFL fifth one edit: oops, Aspen, mahogany, red oak, and the eyes are from Chicken Express - the corn n the cob skewers - ROFL
  3. What a great find, really makes the cutting stand out, and no I would not add any color
  4. Stunning piece of work
  5. Sorry for your loss, the memorial plaque is outstanding, he would have been impressed
  6. he was very talented, wow that is beautiful
  7. Looks great Dave. is the iron thermostatically controlled so you can leave it plugged in and it won't get too hot? How many practice runs did it take to learn how long to hold the iron on the wood? I imagine each species of wood may be different, softer wood vs harder wood - true?
  8. I had that problem, the wood stove took care of two totes of problem pieces. And of course I turned the lights out in the shop, and low and behold a few days later I had more little pieces of wood - what they breed when the lights are out?? Now that I have started trying to lean intarsia, the type of wood scraps are better or more varied, and intarsia allows for me to use the smaller pieces - well when I have built up a larger qty of smaller pieces - I hope, that's my story and I'm sticking to it
  9. Water, in a tank is clear, so I can not see any reason to try to simulate it. But what might help to "sell" the idea that it is real is bubbles. The only way I can think to simulate bubbles is to take some clear fishing line (monofilament) stretch it horizontally and dab some clear glue (the thick kind of glue), then suspend the fishing line vertically. Probably need several close together to get the affect. Similar to holding a string of pearls, but with clear glue drops instead
  10. Well the three you named all are in way different price points I would replace the excaliber choice (now made in china with unproven reliability) with the Pegas as a choice I would remove the Hawk as a choice, too many people on this site who are having issues with order fulfillment, parts, email response, etc I use an older excaliber so I am prejudiced, and I would go with the Pegas
  11. My daughter is president of a nursing school, they had ordered face masks and gloves for their students a couple of weeks ago. The supplier notified them Friday that the orders were cancelled and refunds posted, the CDC took them. Last report I have seen shows that the absentee rate in Chinese factories is an all time high, that is in areas other than the virus outbreak area where they are all but shut down. Shipping is impacted too. If shipping slows or stops for any given amount of time, there is going to be a ripple effect here of shortages, and not just in medical supply. And if the flare up spreads enough to S Korea, Japan, Vietnam, etc, it will get worse here just from manufacturing delays
  12. I use a single bucket on my shop vac, should have mentioned that.
  13. I'm considering going to this one in May in Houston https://www.expohour.com/woodworking-show-houston Not sure if I will be able to though, and then as old as I (we) are I am cautious about attending if this corona thing starts expanding
  14. The lure comes with two treble hooks, one you see and one at the rear of the lure. If you look close the rear treble hook is cut off and just the stem part of it is there. I was hoping to make it look like the treble hook was inside.
  15. I have seen on utube that several people talking about making your own DD always use two buckets, one inside the other. Most likely that is for side strength. But check the main pick up hose for obstructions too, I think even a partial obstruction may cause that.
  16. Good eye, the fish is segmentation, fins mahogany as mentioned and the eye is a whittled down golf tee stained ebony
  17. Yes a real lure, dug into an old fishing box and found it. It was either that or try to paint one, and I am lazy
  18. Sorry I have no idea what the wood is, couple of pieces I found on the side of the road, Mahogany for the fins though.
  19. Beautiful
  20. Looks nice, what is the minimum and maximum heights for the seat? I kind of prefer the 5 legged versions though, they don't tip as easy in my experience
  21. Yep hardest thing for some folks to learn is the difference between value, and cash in hand Kind of like need and want, two different things
  22. interesting thing, looks like you would need a 1" ID hose to connect it though
  23. I would consider cutting the "F" from, a 2x6 or larger if the overall design warrants it. Then bevel only the lower horizontal line of the "F" to leave a gap deep enough to hand the purse on - it would help to have the purse before beveling
  24. I did the same thing, same problem so I went back to the original version of inkscape
  25. Couple of bricks in the bottom of the bucket will cure that.
