  1. Ray, keep in mind that if you build a rolling cart, flip top or not, the larger the wheels the easier it is to roll. All too often I see projects like this that have small wheels, just the minimum weight handling, and the user wonders why it rolls with difficulty
  2. Santa brought me a Porter Cable in 2015, the first thing I did was a sign for the wife's store, then I found an excaliber on craigs list, and been cutting ever since. From Fretwork, to puzzles, to portraits and boxes.
  3. Very nice cutting and wood choice
  4. Welcome to the asylum and addiction. Fill out your profile some and check the member map, there are a lot of us around. We all started this hobby at some point and luckily, everyone on here remembers that, so there is no dumb questions, helpful bunch here. There is a pattern library in the menu above, free for use, just mention the pattern maker if you would when you show the piece. Welcome
  5. Ray @octoolguy was mentioning my magnetic overlay, it works, it is super slippery and even if it does not "stick" to your table, just use double side tape to secure it.
  6. I've used 3/8th walnut both as the major piece and as inlay, it cuts and finishes well
  7. Look at your post, see the heart at the lower right, that will open to different responses when the mouse hovers over it, or click the heart for like I have no idea how to that hover on a phone
  8. Well I get really suspicious of companies that have a web site with errors. I mean if you can't review your own web site for errors, I have to wonder about any product QAQC. The web site in the letter, http://www.excaliburpowertool.com in the slide show first graphic is for the ex-16, the write up says, "discover the capacity of hegner scrollsaws" second graphic - same statement this graphic is for a CNC machine, but says "smooth and accurate 16"
  9. @teachnlearn those appear to be table saw blade speed charts, "diameter of blade"
  10. Maybe they took those 5 years to make some improvements - one can hope pegas clamps, a decent hook up for both upper and lower vacuum, built in magnifier light or at least the post/tube that they stick in, failing a better vacuum hook up, at least one that does not get fretwork stuck in it, and stronger blower
  11. really good price, wonder how wide spread it will be. IMO unless they do something to compete with the pegas clamps they are fighting an uphill battle
  12. Like Trackman I turn the speed down to about half way with 1/4 or 1/8th thick wood, everything else I run about 7/8ths full speed. My theory, and it seems to work for me on my excaliber, is the faster the blade travels up and down the more strokes clear out the wood especially the fuzzies on the back. Keep in mind, the speed of blade has nothing to do with how fast you feed the wood into it, fast blade, slow feed rate, it clears out the fuzzies pretty well, and I hate sanding EDIT - I do use the pegas MG blades, #3 is my goto blade, and they have the reverse teeth at the bottom to clear fuzzies
  13. @namunolie off topic but I saw your location on the member map you just put up, it shows you in india, having served in SK I was curious where you were, seems wrong
  14. here is on craigs list in Austin, if any one is near enough. I have no idea if the price is right or anything really, I am real happy with my ex and can not imagine changing https://austin.craigslist.org/tls/d/austin-hawk-model-g426-scroll-saw/7016109707.html
  15. Add one more to the tilt group, my ex21 sits on a 2x4 and I have no issue with it vibrating off the stick. I did take the rubber feet off the metal legs first though.
  16. Really nice idea. I cut an ornament to commemorate something that happened that year. Like the year the wife got her knee replaced, I cut an ornament with the x-ray view of the new knee and the year below it. They hang on our tree, sometimes two or three per year like her back surgery and my heart failure
  17. If I needed one I would be tempted, quite a number of options on their web page.
  18. Peter, @woodduck your profile shows an ex-21 type saw, try using double sided tape to stick a playing card over the blade entry hole making it a zero clearance saw. It could be that the delicate piece is vibrating with the saw stroke. I use this to hold down the delicate piece close to the blade too. I need to take a better pic to show that the long part that is placed down is not even with the curled part, so pressing down places pressure on the curled part.
  19. ahhh, bottom feed?
  20. Les, my thoughts and prayers are with you
  21. Best place to buy something - where ever you think you got the best deal/service. Let's face it, the internet is almost always the place to start. Or if you are touchy feely, go find the item in a store, decide you want it, find it on the net delivered cheaper, and either buy it, or print the shopping cart out and see if the store will match it. In my small town that match it concepts works, in a larger city that may not. We found a rocker recliner, all electric for the wife at a store here, $1,450, took pics of the recliner and the tags, found it on the net delivered for $850, the store matched the price and delivered it. Best part was the store took away the packing materials, I did not have to mess with them.
  22. I'm kind of a make do, kludge it together kind of guy. I took a corded 1/4 drill, chucked a mop in it, and strapped it down with the mop hanging off the work bench. Works fine, it is the grip of the mop that does the work.
  23. Very nice, I like the burned "frame", nice touch
  24. We must have the same friends!
