The pttern is by Judy Peterson and found in SWWC Holiday Ornaments, Toys and Gifts Vol 2. It is made from Poplar approximately 7" high. I used FD Polar #5 blades and Shellac finish. Comments welcome.

If it is a reverse tooth blade, some teeth face up and will grab and pull the wood up. Don't push too hard, let the blade do the cutting.

Thanks Ralph. Making the rings 1/4" would lose the grain effect of the Zebrawood.

Steve's design called for 1/4" material and 1/4" rings. I thought it would be a little too fragile, so I cut every other ring making the rings 1/2" thick. I hope this explains.

Steve Good posted a pattern for a spiral basket last week, but like Steve I couldn't make it spiral. I used 1/2" Zebrawood and cut every other ring. I really like the look of Zebrawood grain. I used FD UR #3 blades and finished with spray Shellac. Comments welcome.

Rolf, I think you are referring to the Emerald Ash Borer which is devastating Ash in many areas. Back when we lived in MN (10 years ago), it was just entering our area.

Sanding the finished work

I use a Mac Mop on almost every project. -
You can relief cut must anything. I made a box with a heart relief cut on the lid. (Wish I had the picture) Much like inlay, you set the blade at an angle based on the blade and thickness of the wood. When the cut is completed, you push the object up and glued in place. I know this is a simple explanation. I am sure others will chime in.
