Huge Break-Through (For Me) ((Puzzle Related))
Iguanadon replied to jbrowning's topic in General Scroll Sawing
I drove myself crazy for months trying to square the table using a square or using the tilt gauge on the saw, etc, etc... Forget all of that, just start cutting tests on scrap wood, tweak the table a little, test again, etc until you find that perfect sweet spot where pieces slide in and out from both sides. If you want to really baffle your mind, do it that way, then check it with a square and it won't be square, but it's the perfect setting. -
I get asked about the laser engraver I use so I shot a video today showing it in use.

My biggest event is coming up this weekend and the weather looks perfect, so I'm expecting big things. Preparing for it has been rather frantic as my last 2 major events have wiped out my inventory. This'll be the first year at this event I'll have the wall hooks so I'm trying to take as many as possible. The event is located on Topsail Island so I have 3 custom versions. The puzzle versions of them do very well there and expecting the hooks to be in high demand.

For anyone on Facebook, I created a page dedicated to puzzles if interested. https://www.facebook.com/groups/2674444699368154

Just as I start wearing down from the weekly market, now it's Big Event Season. LOL I have 3 major events coming up, then 3 holiday markets... I'm concerned about being able to keep up, but we'll see.

Sunday mornings are always busy in the shop fulfilling custom orders from my Saturday market... Got another request for a "double" with 2 dogs and for the first time, a request for a super sized single dog. Photos and comparisons.

My first major craft event in a year and a half due to Covid. My weekly local market has been great, never stopped, but all major events had been cancelled. Two day event, Lazy Daze in Cary NC. Brutal heat both days but sales were very good even with a reduced crowd due to the heat and due to Covid concerns. Came in just 10% short of my best results at that event. Average of 9 puzzles per hour or 1 every 7 minutes... Running it solo is definitely exhausting. LOL Photo of day 1, I got there at 6:15am to finish setting up and then my final booth view.

I just made a run to Lowe's for my usual purchase of poplar boards and seeing something I've never run into before... piecing together boards to make a 12" wide??? In my short 5 years of doing this, never seen this before... anyone else run into it? 6' long board cost has gone from $33 to $45 and now doing this?

Finish Alternatives - Suggestions needed
Iguanadon replied to Iguanadon's topic in General Scroll Sawing
Hey Kev, so, get me started... what cheap spray gun equipment would you suggest I start looking at? I don't have a compresser, just as a starting point. Initially the wall racks were just a "new item" but they've definitely turned into my top selling category so I do need to ramp up to keep up with production now. And you know me, I'm not afraid to spend whatever is necessary to do things right, or quickest. -
Hey Gang, Need some input/options please. Using rattle can spray lacquer finish on items. Most times, works great, but lately the cans are clogging up constantly and driving me insane. Could be that the garage is getting to hot and affecting the contents. Don't know, but I need ideas as to other ways to finish these pieces please. They have hooks installed and are to be hung on a wall, indoors (usually). Any options need to be SIMPLE and quick... I know, I'm being picky, but I don't have the time to spend more than a few minutes per piece. Thanks for any suggestions you may have. (Photo with cans are larger versions I've started making. Collage shows normal size "key/leash racks".

I can't remember the last time I did a full batch of puzzles... But I had to catch up on some items sold the past few weeks to replenish this weekend. Since I started offering the wall mounted leash holders, they've been the hot item lately.

My most popular item with the locals and the tourists... wall mounted sea turtle key rack and someone asked for a larger version for towels/coats. Carolina Beach is the town I live in.

Flashback... 5 years ago today, my first craft event
Iguanadon replied to Iguanadon's topic in General Scroll Sawing
Thanks Kev, I'm always happy to help and answer any questions. Save folks a lot of time as well as trial & error. -
This flashback memory popped up on my wife's Facebook page this morning... 5 years ago today, my first craft event. Then versus Now... It's been an absolute blast and a fun journey. I wandered down to that market the previous Saturday, asked who managed it, showed him a photo on my phone of one of the puzzles and he said "Nice. Be here next Saturday." WHAT??? I had never done anything like this, didn't have a tent, tables... heck, I didn't a banner, business cards... or even INVENTORY!!! LOL But it was a great first week and has been amazing ever since.

I was telling my wife about the fact that the Big Foot wall rack was very popular yesterday at the market and she asked if I'd thought about doing a bigger version as I did with the Carolina Beach sea turtle... Hmmmm... so, today I'd like to introduce Bigger Foot. The key/leash wall racks have been hugely popular and a boost to sales.

Yep, it's home. I live a few blocks from the lake. We love it here for obvious reasons.

Scott who??? Oh! Me! Hey gang! Yeah, sorry, busy times, busy times... I just did a post in the Bragging Rights area of some drone shots of my weekly market today. I hope everyone is making lots of saw dust.

Hey gang, long time no see... I hope everyone is doing well. A buddy of mine snapped some drone photos of my weekly market today. Great start to the season. Everyone itching to get out and spend a little money. And a shot of my booth setup today.

Sue Mey's patterns? These are Harvey Byler patterns. I'm confused.

I had a customer ask if I could make one of my key racks bigger... after asking how much bigger, here is the end result and comparison. Keys or coats, and anything in between. LOL They came and picked it up the super sized one this morning and then sent me a photo of it already in use.

Amazing What People Ask For ( Custom Car Puzzle )
Iguanadon replied to kmmcrafts's topic in Bragging Rights
Harvey being Amish, I wondered what he'd think when I called him and said I needed a pattern that says SHITBOX... He chuckled and told me to send him the photo/design. LOL And to clarify, Harvey is not taking on any brand new designs right now, but is still happy to do custom names within existing patterns.
