Puzzle pieces cutting fatter on one end
Iguanadon replied to rdatelle's topic in General Scroll Sawing
Here I am late to the conversation again... if not already mentioned, don't rely on the gauge on your table or using a square... Play with the tilt of your table a little each way and making test puzzle cuts on scrap until you find the "sweet spot"... -

Here is where I got my ENGRAVER the customer service is excellent. Nancy literally called me when I informed her I had received it and she walked me through how to do things after I had assembled it and downloaded the software. I got the 3500 model. https://nmclasers.com/shop?olsPage=t%2Flaser-engraver -

Thanks Mike and it's just a "hobby business" for me as I have a day job. I cut maybe 2 hours a day during the week and if I can I'll cut 5 or 6 hours a day on a Saturday or Sunday. There is no overkill when doing fretwork... you guys are the ones that amaze me with your patience to do those types of pieces. -
Lazy Daze isn't until August, but Spring Daze is April 25th, so I'm hoping this bug runs its course by then.

I only use chip, but I'd guess the signature required setting covers any type of transaction. I have one venue where I do 3 shows a year with very poor cell service and end up having to do everything "offline" and as I'm driving home afterward, all the transactions flow through. So far, never an issue.

LOL! It really could become interesting. My company announced a total moratorium on travel for our 3,000 staff... no visits to clients, no conferences, etc. I won't be surprised if craft events get cancelled if new cases continue to be found. FYI - I know you were just joking about that stuff, but you are aware that with Square (maybe PayPal too?) signatures are no longer required for credit card purchases. Be sure to turn it off if you haven't already. So happy when they did that.

It may be a bit interesting this year, but I'm ready. Wanna buy a puzzle? I made sure the biohazard suit matches my banners. It's the details that matter.

That's ok, the only time any of the side doors are open, if ever is during loading and unloading at a venue. The other vendors don't give a crap who I am.

Dive right in and give it a try! You pretty much have to accept credit cards these days or you'll lose a lot of sales. Here you go, I wrote a "booklet" about getting started being a vendor. As I mention in the intro, a lot of it is common sense, simple things, but when you're getting started it's easy to forget some of the simple stuff as your brain is on overload. You definitely don't want to risk it here in the US. Harvey called me Friday and was asking about it as he got a nasty letter from a trademarked entity to stop selling specific items. And I personally witnessed a "raid" at a crafts event I was doing last July. They came and took all of his stuff... never heard what the fines ended up costing him.

Again, I'm late to the discussion, but... I do 25-30 events a year, about 20 of those are my weekly local market that costs $20 per week for a space and is only from 8am to 1pm and then I have events that cost me $500 to rent 2 booth spaces so I have some elbow room. My first 2 years were spent doing pretty much any event I heard about and then learned from those which ones were worth doing moving forward and I always keep an ear out for other events. My determination of worthwile is I have to have sales of $100-$125 an hour for it to be one I'll do again. Some events (4 a year) I have sales closer to $200-$250 an hour. Those mega events are great, but they take a lot of work in advance and of course working the event, not to mention the after effects of having to replenish inventory, but it sure is nice coming home with a bunch of cash in my pocket. LOL

LOL, absolutely, happy to give you the grand tour. Let me know if you're ever in the area. If you can't wait to see it in person I've done some You Tube videos including this grand tour.

Thanks to Don for sharing that link of the write-up I did... hard to believe that was 2 years ago already... Time flies. Quick answers... Check with your local state requirements. Here in North Carolina vendors are required to collect sales tax. Many events ask for your sales tax ID number when you apply to make sure you're set up properly. I charge $25 for most of my items. If they pay cash, I cover the sales tax, if they pay by credit card, I have Square set up to add tax to the price and it ends up at $26.75. I have to file quarterly with the state. You pretty much have to accept credit cards these days or you'll lose a lot of business. The 2.75% fee is well worth it. Good luck and keep asking questions. A lot of great experience on the forum willing to share. Iggy

Thanks. LOL The thicker the cardboard the better. I had recently bought a new office chair and that box was perfect. If you have to settle for standard cardboard boxes, double up and make it 2 ply.

Yep, that's going to be so nice... loading and unloading the golf cart 15-20 times during the summer is exhausting.
-
Late to the party, but this is how I transport the ones for display... The duplicates are shrink wrapped and carried in bins, in alphabetical order for easy access.
-
I'm excited... I just picked up a new (used) PuzzleMobile... Needed something for hauling everything to events. Been using my golf cart for my local market but I've added 2 new 6' tall display stands and it was time to get something dedicated to the "business". If anyone is thinking of buying something, be sure to take a look at these Nissan NV200 minicargo vans. This one is a 2013 with only 51,000 miles and I got it at a good price, and it had the bins already in there. I can't wait to fill it up with crap as soon as it stops raining here.

Thanks everyone. A relaxing, rainy, cold day for this old geezer.

Hey Gordon, I got the NEJE 3500 laser. Great entry level machine for only $167. I did a short video showing it the day I got it set up if you're interested. Come on over to the states and visit my cute little beach town.

She might say too much of that already. LOL Fortunately my day job is working from home and she was able to quit her job and the map business covers her annual salary even though she only has to work 2 months out of the year... So, she ain't complaining.

So, when I'm not working the day job and when I'm not cutting puzzles and leash holders... my wife and I started another business 2 years ago... local advertising map. We noticed there wasn't one already here for tourists and we came up with our own... with absolutely no background in marketing or advertising. Company name is Coastal BizMaps and our tagline/motto is: Putting your business on the map... literally. My wife is a graphics expert so she's the one that does all of the design and layout. I'm the grunt worker that does sales and distribution. 50,000 copies about to be printed which we display and fill stands across the island all year long. Sending to the printer tomorrow. It is hugely popular, even with the locals as everyone loves the list of events for the entire year so they stick it up on their fridge for reference. So popular, we had to expand it this year. We had a waiting list of businesses plus a lot of new ones pop up this past year. 45 in all this year. We'll make room for 6 more next year.
-
And by the way... here is the 2020 version of our local advertising map... my other business... Sending to the printer Monday for 50,000 copies to be produced. My wife does all of the graphics, layout and design. I am the sales and distribution grunt worker.

LOL, nobody would want to be in my brain for even an hour. Fortunately no headaches... but when I wake up in the morning, I absolutely can not go back to sleep as once my mind cranks up, it can't be paused. LOL
