OK After my one and only fair this year (consignment as I don't have to be there) I will get busy getting my stuff in order. My grand nephew came over last year when I helped him with his derby car, and the first thing he said was "how much money is down here?"

Thanks Ray, I actually watched that a couple of days ago. Very informative. My drops from the 4"PVC are flex hose but I keep them as short as possible. Our woodworking club has an annual show at a Huge restoration post and beam building. The scrollers set up three saws for show and tell and make stuff for the kids. At about ten in the morning we get a ray of sunlight that hits our area, that was the first time I really saw how much fine dust is actually generated by our scroll saws. That was when I decided to add dust collection to my saw no more blower. Also if you are doing Intarsia or own a drum sander you really need to get serious about A DC system. This my pneumatic drum sander and the Sandflee to the left. Even with just the 2" hose to the sandflee it works great.

The Harbor freight bag is rated at 5 microns. My first DC was a small Jet that I moved from tool to tool, it had a bag. I once had the hose blow off of my Dewalt 735 which has a built in blower OMG. It was great for my planer and table saw. I have since centralized my system. I have Jet Vortex setup with the canister filter it is specked at Canister Efficiency 86% of 1 micron particles; 98% of 2 micron particles. The Festool HEPA filter filter particles to 0.3 microns with 99.97% efficiency, Now I know why I don't smell anything. The only problem with the Festool Vacuum is it is basically useless for general shop cleanup. It is meant for sanders and sawdust. Lots of particle size chats on the web.

Has anyone ever barcoded their tools and done a real inventory? I am thinking of doing that for a few reasons, insurance, get an idea of my investment, and in the process organize and properly store.

My shop is in the basement right under our great room, and not far from my furnace. My wife spends a lot of her time in the great room.. So not only noise but dust is a major factor for me. I stack cut a lot of baltic Birch, I don't know about you guys but I can't stand the smell. I used to wear a half mask with side canisters. The HEPA filter in the Festool removes not only the dust but there is no smell! There will be no inheritance when I am done. LOL.

I wonder if you used an anti static spray on the cone if that would work and if so for how long? Or even one of the anti static sheets you throw in the dryer. I would never use a shop vac for dust collection, they are just too noisy. The other thing is I would think about putting in a vent so that all of the air is not trying to go through a 3/4 inch hole. Just my opinion.

Brokentone, I used the 3/4" Loc lin. I have my system connected to a Festool Midi running at the minimum speed which is about 62 DB noise level. The Loc lin is situated so that it doesn't restrict my access to either clamp. On the Hawk I can get it closer to the bottom of the table hole, but it is still very effective on the EX also. Rockytime, regarding the fine dust buildup on the mini cyclone, being that the cyclone is plastic it is probably because of static charge. Doesn't the funnel interfere with the bottom clamp?

Very neat installation! I was going to suggest the "Loc Line" fittings for the top but you already have that on your list. Very clever setup. Do you have an idea of the sound level? Interesting Vacuum, brand and source? The only other suggestion I would make, and this is based on experience with my system. I would put a trap in the line with a screen before it gets to the cyclone. Because you WILL suck up a small piece that you absolutely need. You sure don't want to go digging through a large can for it. The image of my complete system was when I first made it. It is held to the Hawk with A couple of Mag switches so that I can easily move it to my EX. since then I added the trap and a swivel so that I can swing the top intake out of the way with out changing its adjustment.

Really lets see 7hrs one way for my Jeep being a bit lead footed ~20mpg at 60mph not knowing your roads. Round trip $80+ and then unless you turn right round you have lodging , and of course wear and tear on your vehicle. I don't now an Email to Denny and having it dropped at my door step sounds pretty good to me.

Thanks Algae for bringing that up. We need a reminder periodically. When I was getting into Intarsia I looked up Wood toxicity. The wood data base was quite the eye opener. No wood dust is healthy, but some are downright nasty. Besides the fire and mess hazard of wood dust having a real dust collection setup when doing Intarsia is critical.

I have been a strong advocate for Hawk since purchasing my G4-26 back in 2005. It top feeds easily as the upper arm is spring loaded when you release the bottom blade clamp, that gives you a huge amount of room for feeding the blade. The same goes for bottom feeding lots of room. As with any saw that all takes practice. The front back stroke is adjustable to almost perfectly vertical. I have not heard anything from or about Hawk in some time, Kevin are you still in touch with them.? That said I would add a Pegas to that collection. Mainly for that fact that the table stays level and the blade moves for bevel cuts. I currently have a well tuned 16inch EX with Pegas clamps. So In my opinion I have the best scrolling capability for my scrolling needs.

Be-O-Be that is a system that makes sense to me probably very quiet, a uniform air flow. But sadly I am out of space.

I am not sure I would want a down draft table connected to shop vac. One the noise, two, and this just my opinion, I thing you need more volume than velocity in the air flow. I would also think that some sort of baffling would be helpful for a more uniform distribution of the air flow. I look forward to some further discussion of actual results?

For years I used a Bosch RO $5 at a yard sale. It did the job but dust collection on it not so much. A few years ago Festool had a RO on sale for $99 I put it on my Christmas wish list. Well as was expected that $99 was sold out and never repeated. But under the tree that year was a Festool ETS EC 125-3. A couple of days later I ordered a Festool Midi vac. There is no sanding dust, no vibration. When I am not using the sander I have the vacuum connected to my SS. It comes on with the saw. I had also won a Festool track saw in our clubs door prize raffle $10. I did build a little side draft box that I connect to my DC system for when I use a power carver.

Like Rocky time, I was 7 when my family came to the US from Germany. My father was the best toolmaker I have ever met and taught me a lot. Both of us were constantly evaluating and improving stuff. Still do. There are a couple of things I would change on the Hegner.

I have always had a short attention span, always changing stuff, Hobbies usually maxed out at 2 years, girlfriends 6mo to 2 years, 1st wife 5. I have changed, my wife of 24 years Is the best thing that ever happened to me. I would not enjoy my life or hobbies as much as I do without her support. My scrolling/ woodworking hobby is now over 16 years. So Travis I like the fresh look and I fully understand the need for software upgrades. You have done an amazing job with this site.! Software upgrades can be a disaster, the SSWWC debacle when they changed to a new software really hurt them.

What do you think of the Pegas scroll saw?

Kevin ? Pegas has it right, tilting arm. great clamps, adjustable stroke, high quality. I don't understand the stand shortage, but that is a non issue in my book.
