    It depends on the toys you are making. I make a lot of toys out of poplar. If I am making a toy for someone under the age of 3 it is a hardwood; maple or beech. Kids will eat the poplar and pine right up.

    This is probably one of my favorite times of the year. It is when my club comes together and donates handmade toys to local charities. This is my favorite meeting of the year. Please share toys that are being donated.

    High: new pattern, new blades, new something to try on the scroll saw that you haven't done before. High: making someone happy because the piece just made was personalized just for them. Low: Random problem with the saw, not broken but must be addressed before work can progress Low: Cleaning up. Thanks for the post. loved reading the comments.

    I drill anything less than a 3/8" and a circle. It is faster and I don't have to thread the blade.

    I would agree. The capacity needs to be one of the major points in looking at scroll saws. I have been close several times with maxing out the capacity of my DeWalt. I know the alternative is the spiral blades, I am just not that comfortable with them.

    I completed a couple of cradles last weekend and finally getting some time to post about them. They were fun to make and took some time to try some new things. Some ideas worked out better than others. Here are the pictures of my favorites. The complete plan is found on instructables. I go into a little of detail on how I made the hibiscus flower on my blog. The complete plan for the two different cradles is found on the instructables page. I am entered in the Woodcraft competition on instructables, so if you do download the plan please vote for my project. (voting button is on the top right corner) Any feedback would be great.

    Thank you for all the comments. It has been a little while since I have been on the forum so I have a lot to catch up on.

    Just finished the last of the Christmas presents for the family. I think the kids have forgotten that I was making them but not sure. The street sweeper has a special story. My oldest came up to me and drew a design for a street sweeper and wanted me to make it. He then took the paper back and drew out all the part drawings. He is seven so the plan made sense in his head not on paper. So we worked together to get a design and a plan that he liked and looked like the plan in his head. His most important items were the siren on top and the brushes had to turn on the ground. Both were accomplished. The Mormon temple was a plan that Tony made for me from a picture. It the pattern was great my cutting was decent. It was a good challenge and something I had never done.

    Hawkeye10 probably gave the best advise with these two sentences. I would suggest getting some different brands and tooth configurations. I feel that most would agree #3 and #5 are the most common and universal blades. The tooth configuration is a different story. Another bit of information that is helpful is a blade chart. This will at least provide some guidelines to material and thickness. Pick up some blades and try, you will find some that you lie.
