  1. I agree, excellent work and definitely something to be proud of! thanks for sharing.
  2. Here is my version of the 3-D Nativity Scene from the Scrollsaw Woodworking & Crafts Winter 2016 (Issue 65) magazine. The original pattern is by Sue Mey and the one in the magazine was cut by our own Rolf. I wanted to modify it somewhat so I could add a battery operated votive candle behind it to "light" up the scene. In order to do that, I added a base to it and added a cutout to the base for the candle to sit in. In hindsight, I would have liked to have found a slightly taller candle to add more "light" higher up behind the halo its self. With my hubby's suggestion as to how best to adhere it all together, I "pegged" the stable to the base and then adhered the scene to the stable with some small pegs behind to set it off slightly from the stable a little more. In order to get the "depth" away from the stable like I wanted, it would have probably been better to have cut two full parts of the scene its self and adhered together for more depth. I didn't so I just cut an additional star when I decided I wanted to have more depth. I considered leaving the star open for the light to shine through and I might if I had a taller candle to help lift the light up there.. Thanks for looking and overlooking the newbie mistakes you may see in my cutting. I was able to get it done and gave it to my mother-in-law in the week before she passed. To her it was a work of art and I hope it brought her some love and peace when she looked at it. I forget which woods I used. Think it was cedar for the stable and baltic birch plywood for the nativity, unsure of the base, it was some scrap hubby had laying around in the shop so could have been most anything.
  3. Very nice looking sign that I am sure Rose will love hanging at her place. Thanks for sharing.
  4. Another one of Steve's patterns i have printed out and have on the "to do list". Was thinking of making for my kiddos and hubby and maybe one for me too. Thanks for sharing your work. Great job on yours.
  5. I agree, great job and Steve Good's site is an awesome place to find many things. He is so generous in his sharing of his patterns. I could cut from his patterns for the rest of my life and probably never get them all done. I look forward to seeing what he has added regularly. Thanks for sharing your photo.
  6. Looks very nice Denny. I like the walnut on the lighter backing. Glad its warming up for us here in East TN. Perhaps you can be back out in the shop later this week.
  7. Very nice work. I was going to make that phone stand with the guitar but life got in the way. Perhaps I will get a chance to sooner then later. Thanks for sharing.
  8. Very nice work and thanks for sharing your pattern for fellow Canadian/hockey fans. One game I have not really ever set down and watched but we do have a very minor league type team here. Maybe one day I will go check it out - here the fights are the main draw.
  9. wow is right - not sure I would EVER try that pattern. Great looking work of art you have created though. Kuddos to you. Thanks for sharing.

    Hello

Another welcome to the Village from Tennessee. A lot of great people and great information to be found here.
  13. Welcome to the village. Lots of great people and information to be found here.
  14. Welcome to the Village Steve from another Tennesseean. Hope you can work out a deal on one of those saws. Both are good.
  15. Very nice cutting. Thanks for sharing.
  16. Looks very nice. Thanks for sharing your photos and your tips on getting it to "fit" better.
  17. Nice job. Letters are difficult yet for me - (I know, I know - practice and practice and practice some more.) I guess I'm technically "retired" - since I left my real paying job 20 years ago to stay home and raise my kids and they are now off at college. Just wish my hubby could retire but somebody has to pay for college and my toys err tools!
  18. Great work for a newbie - I know - I'm a relative newbie myself! Thanks for sharing.
  19. Nice looking project. if you don't find the knobs to "match" you could find them in a different color/wood that would "complement" them. So you would have the purple heart signage and then a lighter color wood knob for example that would look nice. Just another thought to try if you can't find something you want.
  20. Well Denny, not much warmer today here in East TN is it - matter of fact - think it may be a tad bit colder. Looking forward to the warmup later in the week. Upper 50's will be like a heat wave won't it! 1:30 in the afternoon now and my watch says its 23 degrees outside. Think that's suppose to be about the high for the day. Haven't been out to the shop, but its in the garage area but is a separate walled in bay with the central heat and air piped in there so should be decent in there still. Maybe I should get motivated and go do some scrolling work for a bit since I have been MIA in the shop for a couple of weeks now. Sounds like another good reason for you to take one of your saws down to the store. Dick/heppnerguy - sorry for the loss of your friend's mother. Prayers for all.
  21. I'm a relative newbie - so take that into consideration I have primarily used the On-Line brand purchased from JGR. I liked them BUT then, I also got into the saw for doing Intarsia work and took classes from JGR and bought the blades there. After being on the forum here, I have also tried a few Flying dutchman blades more recently to "see" if I could "see" any difference. I didn't really see any "difference" between the two but that might be due to my lack of experience with the saw to date. I will keep trying them and see if I develop a better "feel" or like for one over the other. However, the on-line brand seem to be good blades.
  22. Hi Tabby and welcome to the Village. Glad you were able to try the saw and loved it. Great place for a newbie to come and learn from some great people with lots of knowledge here. I am a relative newbie to the saw myself having started with it this past year. Have loved the friends I have here in the village who are always willing to help, advise, and or simply say "good job" when I post a clearly newbie work. I am in East TN. I see you are in Texas. Did you try a friend's saw out or get one for a gift for the holidays?
