  1. Very nice cutting! Can't help you about the noodle. :>)
  2. My Hegner is becoming irritable to me. It runs smooth as a jeweled watch. The clamps however, suck big time . Hopefully they are something I can get used to if I can just figure out how to change blades. The blades have to be centered on the little V shape. That works until I want to change to an inside cut. The Hawk design is so superior and easy. On the Hegner I have to remove both clamps, push the glade through the pattern hole, fasten the blade to the top clamp and then jockey the clamps into position. I tried just releasing the top clamp and threading the blade, then tried to get the blade in the top clamp. As often as I tried I could not get the blade into position so it could be tightened On the Hawk it is quick and simple. Perhaps my Hegner is old, 1988, and the newer saws are improved. If I can't get the hang of this, this little sucker is HISTORY! Perhaps all I need is a little advice.
  3. Put the quick release on and it works well. But...as Stoney said this can be made with a bolt, spring, washer and $6 cam lever. Gonna cut some word art from !" pine and run it through some paces.
  4. Cute pattern!
  5. Celtic knots have always been popular. They have a kind of mystique. The cuttings are terrific. The reason I no longer make pens is I do not have accurate enough equipment to segmenting. John, your pens are exquisite. I tired of making plain pens. I don't sell so it gets expensive.
  6. An Alex Fox pattern. 8 1/2 X 11. 3/16" luan , 2/0 Pegas MG. Still needs 50/50 BLO.
  7. Thanks Stoney. Unfortunately the Hegner one for $74 will arrive tomorrow. Not sure why but I sometimes do things on impulse. Never thought of the obvious but thanks anyway.
  8. Another great suggestion. Thanks! That's what makes the Village so great.
  9. Another great suggestion. Thanks! That's what makes the Village so great.
  10. Smiles are a great payoff!
  11. Got the dust collection completed today. Complicated system. 4 1/2" rare earth magnets.
  12. Yes I got the clamps. The wrench is just a clock winding key
  13. Thank you. It looks good. I'kk watch it. Also the long bolt to tighten the tilt, I took it off and replaced it with a metric hex bolt. I will perhaps never tilt the bed. If I do I have lots of wrenches. Also, the little thing that flips over the lower clamp, I removed it also. This little saw will work great. Thanks for the photo too.
  14. Do you have photos? I can use suggestions.
  15. Ray, you have to stop giving me ideas! You just caused me to spend $74.90 on the quick release. STOP IT! Now I have $100 for the saw, $74.90 for the tension release, $3.17 for a knob plus the cost of the 8' bolt. In addition gas to get the saw and then I bought lunch for my friend and I which was over $25. Lord, where will it ever end? The good news is I'll end up with a great little saw. Just have to work out dust collection. Hegner has one for my saw but I can work something out.
  16. Thanks for the info. I had seen this before but was not aware it was available for the 14V. I did a couple of test cuts today after making my tension rod. Hegner wanted $62, mine cost $3.17 for the knob. The saw is virtually vibration-less from 0 to 1750 spm. Smoother than a baby's butt. I tried cutting with a #9 Pegas MG on 1/2" Poplar.
  17. Great looking puzzles. Love the colors!
  18. Well I got my rust bucket cleaned up. I removed the arms, cleaned them and lubricated the bushings. Looking a little better now. It was filthy and every steel part was rusted. Chipped paint on the stand. This saw was unused for many years. The lady selling it said it was her fathers and she kept it to make things when her kids were in scouts but said she never could figure out how to use it. It's been sitting a very long time.. All it needs is the tension rod at the rear of the saw. Hegner wants $61 for the rod and two wedges. Not gonna happen. I'll make one tomorrow. The spring is rusted but certainly usable. Hegner wants $10 for a replacement. Not gonna happen. I does run smooth as silk through the entire range of speeds. It will be a great little saw. It has taken some serious rearranging to make room for it. It's not ideal but is workable. It required moving my drill press outside the shop but that's OK.
  19. That is very cool!
  20. From what I can see you did a great job!
  21. Great job!
  22. I'm trying to up-load photos but I get a message that says my browser does not support Java Script. Don't know what happened as It worked yesterday. Hmmmmm I got two boxes of blades big enough to take down a tree trunk!
  23. I bought a $100 rust bucket. I forgot how small 14" is. However, seeing it run I bought it. It has some rust that I can remove. The tension knob at the back is broken but I can replace it or make a new one. It is variable speed and runs smooth as silk through the entire range. I don't think I would sell yet. It is a cute little bugger. I can perhaps use it as a decorator piece in our picture window. I have pictures but I can't get them to load for some reason. I put them in a photo editor before posting but I can't get them into the editor. I'll work on it and post photos later.
  24. The 14 is too small to replace the Hawk. To replace it I'd need a full size Hegner. My hawk is set up so conveniently I would hate to do everything over again. My saw is on wheels out of necessity. Dust collection is set up. I'm too old. I am very short on energy. I walk with a cane so getting down to do the smallest jobs are a real chore. I'm fortunate to have had my shop built perhaps 15 years ago. Three years ago I got rid of my large machine tools and a friend built new benches and shelves for me. I am no longer able to do those things. So I just sit at the saw and enjoy life every day. I think I had a bad day once but I can't remember. :>)
  25. That's gorgeous! That had to take some time for sure.
