I would think I had died and gone to heaven to have that much room for a shop. As far as dust goes spend your money and time collecting dust from each machine. Living where you do it's got to be hot so in my opinion I would have air conditioning. If you can't go to the shop and be comfortable why would you go there? Here is a couple of pictures of how I collect dust. My miter saw. The carpet is to keep dust bouncing off the back and sides. I hook up both my Grizzly 1 1/2 HP dust collector and my shop vac. On my router table I get almost no dust from it. My table saw has dust collection but I still get some dust.

I have been looking at patterns here on SSV and have a question. Here is a link to a pattern I picked at random but do I cut the white out or the black. I am not at the level to cut this pattern but just me looking at it it's confusing on what to cut. Not only this pattern but others as well. Thanks

I wonder if you put tape on the bottom side would it help with tear out? Just a thought I had.

Ron would you explain how you use an eraser and beeswax to lube the blade. Thanks

I see where some people use painters tape and others use packing tape. I have read it's to lube the blade but I don't know. I can see maybe using painters tape and sticking the pattern to that so it would be easier to remove. So what do you ladies and gentlemen think?

Yesterday I bought some Olson #3-#5-#7 blades from the Wooden Teddy Bear. I bought my saw from Woodcraft so I bought a multi pack of Olson blades to get started with. Maybe they will last till I get my order from WTB. If I don't break them all.

I spent most of the day moving a few things around and now I have a place for my scroll saw. For those that don't know I bought a DW 788 yesterday. I went to Harbor Freight and bought a stand, the one that came with the saw would never work if you sit down to saw. I bought an assortment of blades (one pack) but now I know I will need more. Of coarse I will start with easy patterns so I need blades to do that type of sawing. May if you know of a simple pattern or two show me that and tell me what blade to use on it. I am sure when I learn more I will have blades that I like to use more than others but now I don't know anything. Tanks

I agree Bill shellac is a good top coat. I use Bulls Eye brand spray cans that you can buy at most places. In the spray cans it is also wax free which is important when putting it over other things like Watco Danish. It will turn the project a little darker like maybe an amber color. I think the amber tone makes it look better in most cases. As always test first if you don't already know what it will look like. Testing is very important.

Len the shipper was UPS and I found out about it being sent back by looking at tracking. I don't think UPS has a clue why they sent it back. They just do what the shipper wants. ((I am guessing))

Ralph I would use Watco Danish Oil. They make one for oak and a natural. Just test on another piece of oak. You can get it at Home Depot. It's so easy to use just wipe or brush it on and let it dry then put another coat on. This is a finish you can't mess up even if you tried. What is not to like about that?

Thanks Randy I just got back home from Woodcraft and I bought the 788. I did see the EX-16 but went with the 788 on the advice of a nice lady named Judy. I do appreciate you offering to lone me your saw but this was a pretty good deal I thought.

That is very nice of you Scott but you are right 8 hours of driving is a long way especially when you don't like to drive.

As far as I know they don't tell you that. I have made it a point to be very nice to the seller but they haven't responded to any of my four emails so I have ask for a refund.

My Dewalt 788 that I bought on Ebay finally got to Murfreesboro Tn. where I live and it was recalled by the sender (seller). I sure don't understand some people. This country is full of lairs and cheats. I am sure you have heard a lot about that. Since I can't get an EX that leaves Jet which cost $990 with stand shipped and a Dewalt for about $550 shipped with out stand. I have also heard that the Delta is a close copy of the Dewalt but I don't know. I like the Jet but the cost is high. I would appreciate your opinions.
