That is the reason I asked. I just got a catalog from "The Wooden Teddy Bear" and just about the whole thing is devoted to patterns.

Are there any advantages to buying patterns? Most of the patterns that are for sale don't give very much if any information about what you are buying. It appears to me you get about as much information about the free ones. For me this is very confusing.

I almost bought one but the price tag was twice what I paid for my 788. I have bought cheaper before and was sorry later.

I guess this is another question that people have a different opinion on. I have seen some say run your SS wide open then others say run it from 1/2 to 3/4 and then some say find a sweet spot. I find that running it 3/4 to full speed is okay and I really can't tell much difference. All I have been cutting is practice patterns using 1/4" ply that I bought at Home Depot. You know the cheap stuff. Do you guys have any advice?

Ron I have done a lot of fishing in my life but not very much with a flyrod. I do know one thing I think your wife knows a bargain when she sees one. Does she buy your woodworking tools also??

I really like that cutting Dan. It will be cold before you know it. PS- It's been a long time since I have seen clothes hanging on a line. They smell so good. Thumbs up.

Y'all know I am new but here goes. You might try spraying the wood with clear coat and letting it dry over night. Then spray the pattern with adhesive and attach. The clear coat might let the adhesive turn loose easier when you apply mineral spirits. Just thinking.

I found this really good video on YT mostly about greasing and replacing bearings in your 788. He is saying the lack of lube and a good quality lube is a down fall to the 788. Have you guys had problems with your bearings? The way he talks if you grease the bearings before they go bad they will last a very long time. Here is a link to the video, it's in four parts and they are long. (Very long).

Right now I think I will stick with my 2X4 and see how that works out. If it gets to be to much of a hassle I can always buy one. Right now I am bottom feeding but I think maybe I will try top feeding later on. I am still trying to master a practice pattern Travis posted on this forum. The angles are giving me a fit. I can do them but it takes a long time. It's not as easy as y'all make it look.

I would put two coats of clear. If the backer board is ply then you don't have to do it but it might look better if you do.

I am wanting to get a lift for my DW 788 and the the lift from "Papa's Workshop" looks like the best one I have seen. My question is I have my saw raised up in the back around 5" and I was wondering if it would work. That little thing that catches the arm swings into place using gravity. Thanks

Welcome Warren to a fun place and nice folks. I remember the Clarke brand but here in the USA it's an older brand. If you can post a picture of your saw. I would like to see it. It looks like you are off to a good start on your scrolling.
