  1. Oh, that... It's a holder for small parts. I have several of these with holes of different sizes. Here are some examples of how I use them.
  2. The table top is a piece of masonite hardboard with a notch in it to fit the smallest spindle. It gives me a flat smooth work surface with as small a gap as I need. It isn't fastend down in any way.
  3. After I finally broke down and bought a shipping label printer, I had many of the old labels I used with my laser printer. I made some SVG files that would fit on the labels using one of Steve Good's gnome patterns to try using labels instead of spray adhesive. I took the patterns to the shop, and while looking for some wood to use for the experiment, I looked into the five-gallon bucket full of offcuts from my scroll saw. Here is where the second experiment idea came from. How many gnomes could I make using only the wood in this bucket? Answer: More gnomes than I have time for. The wood in the bucket is 3/4 inch or thicker, too thick for the mini gnomes. I applied the patterns, cut them from the wood in the bucket, and resaw them using my Shopsmith bandsaw. Once I had a small bucket of parts, I began to assemble them. I stopped when I ran out of feet and did not have time to cut more. The labels worked well, but I had to be much more careful about dusting off the wood to get them to stick as well as I liked. If the wood was smooth and clean, the labels stuck tight enough that mineral spirits helped get them off.
  4. Sometimes, the price has less to do with selling the item than finding the right person to sell it to.
  5. My Pegas saw came with a shelf made from 1-inch-thick oak. I was thinking about building the sandbox, so I put 60 lbs of aquarium gravel on the shelf as an experiment. As far as I could tell, it made little or no difference. I usually run my saws at their particular sweet spot unless a different speed is required. I don't see how you could have a scroll saw with zero vibration.
  6. It depends on the project and how many times I get interrupted. I have grandkids around the house most of the week, so many interruptions occur.
  7. I haven't made a frame in years, but when I did, splined miters were my favorite. There is nothing wrong with a half lap or but joint for a frame.
  8. I don't hear anything out of the ordinary. Have you checked the motor bolts? If these get loose and the motor shifts position, it can cause problems.
  9. After I had already hit the submit button.
  10. I have several sanders. Three of them are random orbit sanders. I Hitachi and one two Bauer. The Hitachi is by far and away the best but it has a weird shaped dust port. The Bauers sanders have a round dust port. They only get used for sanding boards that are too large for my Shopsmith belt sander.
  11. The Klingspor Abrasives Gold Sand Mop 1"x 4" 220 with double the regular flutter sheets and no stiffeners. I use it for everything from wood toy parts to fretwork. I have had it for several years and have not worn it out. I also have Klingspor Abrasives Spindle Mounted Mac Mop, 180 Grit. I find it helpful in relieving sharp corners, but I don't use it for much else. It is more aggressive than the Gold Sand Mop. More than just the fact that it is a coarser grit. I looked at making a mop before I bought one an I would not make one. I have better things to do.
  12. I have both, and I much prefer the mop. I find the mac mops to be to agressive for my projects.
  13. I do this as well. However, I think that what is happening is that in the first clamping the blade isn't straight in the clamps and when I flip the tension lever it straightens the blade, and when I remove the tension there is a little slack. I have experimented with this and found that if I was extremly careful to get the blade exactly right there was liitle or no slack.
  14. I was going to bring that up. Ipe is very hard to saw even with a bandsaw.
  15. I need to make one of those for my grandson.
  16. I would try 99% Isopropyl Alcohol. There are many options for this on Amazon, and your local stores may carry it. Walmart has 91% in Tallahassee.

It's not mine, although I have slightly modified it to improve the strength. The original design was quite fragile. If I remember correctly I have broken four of these. I purchased from Lloydswoodtoyplans.
  18. I see said the blind man.

I have made a few of these. The body is poplar, and the darker woods are mystery wood from my cutoff collection that I got mostly from a friend who makes sewing machine bases for antique sewing machines.
  20. How is the board clamped? I don't see clamps in the photo.
  21. Are you pushing the clamp and the board together?
  22. I have too much stuff that doesn't work now.
  23. I would not pay money for it. I was offered one for free a year ago and turned it down.
  24. The patterns are the only reason I subscribe. I find the rest of their content to be a waste of paper.
  25. I would much rather have digital copies. Some of than patterns are larger than my scanner. If I get digital copies, I can resize them or whatever I want.
