    My sympathies to your friend I lived in Los Angeles area for 35+ years, so I'm very familiar with it taking an hour to go 5 miles LOL - In Ca. you don't measure distance like the rest of the country who does so in miles, but rather in hours based on which freeway is locked down at the moment! That being said, I used to do most of my running around/shopping Saturday mornings before the traffic garbage started. Where exactly is this is store to which you're referring?

    IMO Ray, You have to weigh the costs of time+gas vs shipping. If that place is close enough that you're only dealing with traffic, I think that's a done deal - Shipping costs are very prohibitive when buying wood in bulk IMO. The only way I can shipping costs paying off, is if you have others to go in on a shipment - but then you're getting into larger loads which also have a hinderance Take the drive, have some lunch, shop around and enjoy the day - that's what I say

    You can use it to take screen shots, highlight and email parts of a website etc. Some find it of use, I do not since there is a "Print Screen" key on the keyboard. Basically you can do the same thing with Print Screen key and MS paint - works fine for me

    Thanks Lew - I'm going to be making quite a few frames (hopefully) this week using several different techniques. I'm hoping at least one of them will be usable LOL I'm hoping to be working on half lap joint, rabbeting the outer frame instead of the 3/4 L molding and might even try a pocket hole frame, although I'm not big on pocket hole frames All the frames will be standard sizes

    "Being in the Black" is an accounting term that stems from manual book keeping/banking days of old. During the days of manual book keeping/banking debits were always made with a Red pencil - hence the term being in the red - it' is the amounts a business pays out. Income was always made in Black - so when you subtracted the Black from the Red, if the number was positive, you were in the Black, if it was negative, you were in the Red. If you look at or use Excel or other spreadsheet, take a look at the number format - it is red and black

    I seal everything so far As for the puzzles, I have some Cutting board oil (mineral oil of sorts) I was going to try Also I read about this article for food safe finishes: http://www.finewoodworking.com/2006/08/01/food-safe-finishes I'm going to try the oil + beeswax since I have a block of beeswax just laying around when the wife used to make candles

    Ok, we ran some tests on painting puzzles We've found the following (if anyone has found otherwise, I'd very interested in your results): Spray paint goes on thick and stays thick - hinders not only the puzzle pieces fitting together, but also sticks and swells in humidity. Spray paint is out Acrylic paint - while able to control the amount of paint, it has a similar affect to spray paint. Acrylic is out for puzzles for now Food coloring - this was the winner hands down. It seeps into the wood, but does not swell in humidity. However so far we've been unable to get vibrant colors. We're going to be working more with food coloring for puzzles as well as using different colored stains. Food coloring has to soak in so we've been letting it soak in for up to 8 hours. If any one has any suggestions or formulas that work with food coloring (I've found some websites that describe the process) please post Thanks in advance
