  1. That is definitely one test of patience and skillz!!! Thanks for the link to the Declaration....may have to try that one myself at some point. I've always wanted a framed copy of the Declaration.....
  2. I kinda got distracted in the middle of this one. Cut this back in December, then got some other honey-do's (and, yes, a few "Why the hell not" projects) that came up. Some friends of ours just signed the mortgage on a new house and expect to be moving in at the end of next month (literally, new house. Its still being built). So....a house-warming gift. I was even happy with how the frame turned out, and I *hate* frames.
  3. Very cool!! Great feeling to see something through from "vague idea" to "concrete product that works as hoped"!!!
  4. Very nicely done!!! Welcome to the Village! (btw, I'm the Village's idiot, in case you're wondering who to watch out for )
  5. As long as the wife is happy, the husband is allowed to be happy as well. Nicely done!
  6. I'm half-way there....I've got the "tired" part nailed down. Still working on "re".
  7. Cut my pattern. Nice to know I'm able to put together a pattern that is cut-able!! Leftover chunk of 1x12 whiteboard, finished with Minwax Provincial (it was closer to hand than Dark Walnut). I'll hit it with a couple of coats of rattle-can semi-gloss seal tomorrow morning.
  8. Me either. Out of sight, out of mind, though...typically its not good to see the ocean when out at sea on a sub. LOL
  9. Not your standard dolphins, mind you....part of a Steve Good pattern (printed at 150% enlargement, using the "poster" option in Adobe Acrobat Reader's print window), these are submarine qualification dolphins, 6 years of living hell and a daily-renewed appreciation for Mountain Dew, strong coffee, Excedrin, and Motrin 800. Cut out of 1" pine, finished in Minwax's Provincial. These'll end up hanging over my desk at work. Still not sure if I'll make a plaque to back them or not....subs are pretty no-frills places to conduct sneakiness and shenanigans (not necessarily in that particular order), I think they'll do just fine standing on their own. Plus, being 1" thick, they'd look funny sticking out of a plaque. Already had a request for another set from another submariner, I'll do that one out of 1/2" ply, double-stacked for an extra set. This was a fun cut, but the final sanding left a lot to be desired.
  10. Our old house had a swing attached to an oak tree. Our daughter insisted it wasn't high enough until she could kick a nearby tree branch. Of course, it wasn't very long after she was tall enough to reach that branch that her legs were also long enough to hit the chain-link fence between yards on the back-swing.
  11. Ver' nice! I have this on a Tshirt.
  12. It was a lot of eyeballing and guesswork, having a photo of a flag up on my cellphone and nudging letters around before the glue set. I sorta decided that the "not" was centered at the bottom, got that down first, then worked outwards from there. Found out that my spelling sucks even more when spelling a word backwards. Thank you all!
  13. Finished up a POW*MIA sign to replace a damaged one at a Facebook friend's VFW. Letters/star/filigree(?) and POW/tower are done out of 3/8" BBply. The backer is 1/2" rough ply scrap that I found at Lowes, a cutoff piece I got for free. It sanded smooth, so I'm happy. Frame is....pine? 2x2 I ripped in half(ish) lengthwise and probably took about 6' worth of wood to make. Frames always seem to surprise me with how much wood they consume. Also with how high my blood pressure gets when making those friggin things.
  14. Compound cuts are fun! Its like unwrapping an anticipated gift at the end. Well cut!!!
  15. Those are some flocking great projects! I love the flocking dragon. ...this flocking joke is probably wearing pretty flocking thin by now....
  16. God gave us 10 fingers for a reason! If, by the third finger, you haven't figured out how close you can get to the blade, scrolling probably isn't for you. LOL
  17. $19.99? That's not bad at all! Which brand whiskey do you use as an anesthetic? I've had this happen to me on occasion, I think it has to do with the friction of the blade warming up the glue just enough that it pops up. Doesn't happen anywhere else because there's enough glue away from the "warm" area to keep it held down. Usually it happens in a spot I've just finished cutting or am about to finish, so I'll trap the wayward piece under a fingernail (keeping in mind the blade and where the blade will be going at the next turn) until I'm past it, then tear it off so it doesn't snag on something or just sit there flapping and bugging the crap outta me. I'm still on the old 3" pin-ended blades, and haven't found any reverse-tooth options (found some Pegas skip-tooth 3" pinned blades, which are awesome), so I don't think its the return stroke tooth that's pulling up your pattern.
  18. Some friends of ours (and a co-worker of mine) are buying their first house this year. So as a housewarming gift, I thought this would work. Ran it past my wife (she approved), did some fiddling in Inkscape, and started doing some cutting. Its not a difficult cut, lots of exterior to go around but nothing insanely challenging, other than the fact that I got a stye in my left eyelid a while back, and when cedar fever season hit early Dec, it started growing. Finally went to the doctor, and the stuff she gave me, after about four days, swelled up my eyelid so bad that to finish cutting today I had to close my left eye and was considering going inside and digging out a bandana to make a makeshift eyepatch. Inconveniently, I'm left-eye dominant. Closing that eye actually made it easier to see. So....time to call the Dr and find out is going on with my eye. ....I hate going to the doctor. Sorry, possibly too much info, but hey, Travis *did* ask for backstory! LOL Anyway, I finished up the piece today, just need to get it stained, backed, and framed. I'll post the pattern in the library if anyone's interested. Word of caution, there's several places where there's just one tiny bridge between sections, the whole thing is fairly...wobbly. So be careful when sanding.
  19. Looks like the windows and doors on the pop-ups line up with windows and doors on the main level? Then cut the pop-ups on a slight angle so they don't fall out? First thing I noticed was the lack of pattern, too, this is awesome!
  20. I think he's going for that rustic, industrial, well-used look.
  21. Two are rescues, Flynn (tan, half-bloodhound) and Ranger (black, cropped ears, we think he was a bait dog that escaped). Annie (grey) we got from a breeder. Ranger's about 9 or 10 years old, Annie's 5, and Flynn's approaching 2.
  22. Nice!!! Easy way to get people to not ask for something is to have a price-list hanging near your work. I've found that folks love stuff until they have to cough up money for it.
