  1. I can understand that. I made a piece in the shape of a grenade for work (there is a story there). I screwed up the piñon it by having the front perfect and the back at about 45 degrees. Let’s just say it is now a grenade armed with no pin. Hendo
  2. Thanks for sharing. I was told before I started that I will be most critical of my own work. Also, I was told to not point out mistakes as most will not notice them. I share this because the mistakes you pointed out would not be noticed and does not take away from the overall amazing work. Well done! Hendo
  3. In my vast experience of a couple of months, I have had one incident with a project. Working with Oak, I had an R break off in my hand. I of course had a few choice words. After I calmed down, I put simple elmers wood glue and pressed on. To my surprise, can’t even tell now. Hendo
  4. Thank you very much. The bottom one is Virginia Tech. A school a guy graduated from. The short answer for the top one is Hemi is type of engine that changed the way it compressed air to get more power. Dodge motor company is the one that designed it in the 60’s. Hendo
  5. @rjR,Hemi’s the reason I am driving my Durango for the last 15 years and will try to make it another 15 more! Hemi is actually a nickname of someone at work and he earned it. Hendo
  6. Copy all and thanks for the info. I have read that before, but wasn’t sure when to do it. Hendo
  7. All, I have been told here repeatedly to show off my work. It is a new concept for me, but here it goes. The Bottom one is pretty straight forward. The top one was designed by my wife and I as we used her Crickcut machine. We are both learning that beast. Hope you guys enjoy it. By the way, has anyone worked with Purpleheart? That will be my next challenge. Hendo P.S. I have no idea why my photos turn to the side.
  8. Thank you all and I intend to stay here on SSV. I checked a few out and this place seems to have the best people in it. I hope I can contribute. Hendo
  9. Susan, I am glad I found this post. I started working with wood about six months ago and I do live near Camden. I am on the south west side of Sumter. So it is about 45 minutes, but closer than most. I work inside a two car garage with two cars in it. I would like to communicate more and incidentally, One guy that I refer to for guidance locally (before I found this site) lives in Camden. Up there is the holy grail of butchers with Ole Timely! Anyways, look forward to your response. Hendo
  10. Yoda has spoken. Just kidding TJ. Always value all your guys thoughts and wisdom. Hendo
  11. Stacking is a good suggestions, but like you, I only do one at a time. This way I get to relive the enjoyment over and over again. Congrats on the championship and great work! Hendo
  12. @JTTHECLOCKMAN, your father is a wise man. In my previous life as an aircraft maintainer, Maintenance breeds more maintenance. So far, I love the aggressiveness of the blade which is why I haven't torn mine apart like a rabid honey badger. Hendo

    DeWalt DW788

Purchased a 788 second hand that is a type 1. Had to look hide and low for one that was reasonableness. Doubt is has had any maintenance and appears to have been used for metal cutting. Did an acceptance inspection on it and realized the blade is tilted slightly. Not too concerned of it being off 1/16 to 1/32 off. Blade is set aggressively forward. Can be fixed by a shim in the back of the table, but in the short time I have had it, I am liking the aggressiveness. I am upgrading from a circa 1990 craftsman 13 inch with two speeds (off and on) to this and it is a dream come true. Very smooth and once I tried it out, I had to verify that it was even on. The blade was moving, but barely heard the motor. Glad I upgraded to this. Hendo
  14. Oscar, What I would do is if it is running fine, nothing. Once you start hearing a vib, look at lubing the bearings. if they appear worn, replace them. That is what I will be doing. @ike, I paid 275. Not too much, but considering there are not many options in my area.
  15. Welcome to SSV. Not going to lie, I read Brantford and had to refresh my memory with Ontario. I grew up across the border and have traveled through there on my way to the big TO. Sounds like you have a lot of experience in Scrolling. I am pretty new, but truly enjoy it. I look forward to your works, knowledge pasted on. Hendo
  16. @JTTHECLOCKMAN, Everything you stated to check for, saw slight problems. The table is level, however; I see what you mean by the blade being set aggressive. Blade is off 90 degrees by 1/16th at most. trying to decide if I should even bother with it. Given the fact that I am going from a 13 inch one speed craftsman (1990 low end model) to this, its like going from a pinto to a Ferrari. Thank you all for the insight and while it might have been a sketchy deal, I am glad that I have acquired this. Cuts like a dream! Hendo
  17. Well, put a bulb in it and started it up. I could barely tell it was on! Time for the acceptance inspection. So far, so worth it!
  18. Thank you gentlemen, I am looking forward to it.
  19. All, Picked up the saw, now I am sitting at work drooling at it while waiting to go home. Came with the stand, light and separate on/off switch. Thing is built like a tank. Just thought I would give an update since you guys and gals having provided so much guidance. Hendo
  20. Thank you. I am going to trust you on this.
  21. Thank you for the encouragement. one step at a time I guess. Hendo
  22. Thank you very much! means a lot to read this.
  23. Stevie Wonder Also said the same thing!
  24. Thank you all for the comments and reactions. My only concern is all the wife’s friends will want one. Oh well, guess it is an excuse to go into the garage for a weekend. Just to clarify, it is the first time I made a pattern and cut it. Not the first time cutting a pattern out.
  25. All, Just thought I would share this. It is the first project I did where I made up a pattern, cut it out and all that is left is to put some boiled Linsead Oil. Let me know thoughts please. Anything I can do better?
