  1. If he is breaking blades, that is a cheap lesson that will last a lifetime.
  2. Welcome to SSV. I started six months ago and now making my own patterns and having a blast cutting. You have come to the right place as I have learned so much from these people here in the village.
  3. That is amazing! I would hold onto it too just because it is a part of how we made it to where we are now. The wife must be getting bored because she has come out to the garage while I am cutting. I expect her to try something in the next couple of days.
  4. Canary Wood is awesome. I definitely like it more than Purple Heart. Those are the only two international woods. Have some Zebra wood, but waiting for the right project.
  5. Village, I embarked on a journey last Oct when my neighbor gave me a 1990 13 inch Craftsman Scroll Saw. With your guidance and encouragement, I will mark this day with my first project ( Bottom) and the Jimi Hendrix (top) I just finished. Thank you for all the help and mentoring.
  6. @wombatie, neither did I until I went to ooa... wood distro from this site. Canary Wood is located between Panama and Brazil. Fun to work with.
  7. Thank you for all the comments and encouragement. Home is where the heart is; and the family.
  8. Been asked to make a key holder for the wife. Still have to put on the hooks, but first time using Canary wood. Absolutely love it! Smells nice cutting, response well. Cut with a Flying Dutchman #1 skip tooth. Used Team oil to make it pop. Hope the SSV nation likes this as much as I have loved making it and staring at it. P.S. I think I figured out my problem with the photos going sideways. iPhone 8 has to be turned sideways.
  9. I know that feeling. Scrolling is therapy!
  10. Beautiful! Excellent work.
  11. My quarantine project started with laying vinyl flooring down In the whole house. Then made three angels and just finished a Led Zeppelin work. Next up: Beetles and Jimi Hendrix. WARNING: please turn your monitors on their sides.
  12. Thank you all for looking and leaving comments. Was nervous at first, but you here at SSV prepared me well. Inside cuts first!
  13. Been looking forward to this challenge as I attempt to up my game. I would like to think I am at difficulty: hard. One day, I will be expert. Apologies for the photo being sideways.
  14. Welcome to the village. Nice work! I have learned scrolling is stress relief after I retired from the USAF as well. You might have a hole in the wall basement, but I am sure it beats my hole in the wall garage that while scrolling, I am sitting between two vehicles. Again, welcome.
  15. That is an amazing idea! Thanks for sharing.
  16. @amazingkevin, thank you for your kind words, but I have seen your work. I have a ways to go. Still; huge shout out to the SSV world for giving me the knowledge and confidence.
  17. @Gordster, I don’t know why it always does this, if I take a photo sideways, it still shows sideways. Maybe I am a little off kilter. Thanks for the assist!
  18. SSV Nation, I have to wait on more flooring to arrive so I can press on with that (Kept me busy for a bit). I finally was able to make it back into the garage today and made this. Thanks for all who encouraged me as it has almost six months since I started scrolling. Hope you like it and welcome feedback. Hendo
  19. Welcome back. Since you were gone, I joined the SSV nation and I am glad I did. Enjoy making piles of sawdust!
  20. @wombatie, thanks for that knowledge. Almost broke off a piece, so I can understand that. Now I feel like I have reached a milestone.
  21. @amazingkevin, you have no idea some of the stories I have heard from this gentlemen, then I seen the video from Korea. So you have made a slight understatement.
  22. Thank you very much. Knowing it is for a 95 year old vet made it extremely enjoyable to work.
  23. Just finished this as it has been a journey. Learned a lot and get to give a gift to one of my mentors. 36+ years in the Air Force and he was in from World War Two until Nam. I tried altering this pattern some to reflect his bird. Could’t get the tail as it wouldn’t have worked. DeWalt 788 saw with Flying Dutchman 1 ultra reverse blades. Hope the SSV nation approves of it. Hendo
  24. Thank you. My next try is pushing the limits. a P-51 for a guy who flew them in two wars.
  25. I wouldn't worry about only cutting one puzzle when it turns out like that! Well done!
