  1. @octoolguy, I have a Delta saw with a cabinet style. I paid my neighbor about 80 for it (moreso because he needed the money). I had to replace the motor on it and honestly, wanted an upgrade. I know it was old as it is a cast iron top, but in the process, I found out it was made in 1990. So I dropped maybe 300 dollars and the saw is pretty much like new. The thing runs like a pack of dogs chasing a three legged cat.
  2. Just a could of ideas that I had would be musicians. I like the idea of different animals per month as well. You could do something like flying vehicles, road vehicles, or one month, just have a "anything go's" month.
  3. Sorry about the replacement. I will be having a double replacement at some point.
  4. I have been guilty of taking bad photos, in fact, I recently found out how to take a photo with my phone and post here without the photo turning side-wades. I know I have a lot to learn still.
  5. All you guys and gals using irons and burning your mark in makes me even a lower budget outfit. When I am done, I just use a sharpie and make my mustache drawing, nothing else. Knowing my luck though, that is the only piece that survives after being through in as fire starter.
  6. Welcome to SSV! I started scrolling last year and I am just a few years older myself. never to late to pick this hobby up. Make sure to ask questions here and by all means, show your work off! good luck with your saw.
  7. I use card stock and a cricut, but I keep all the patterns unless they tear. It has come in handy every once in a while as I don't have to reprint patterns every time I want/need to cut something.
  8. Just supervising.
  9. Excellent idea and even better cutting! Your making me feel like a low budget outfit!
  10. excellent work with clean cuts!
  11. There are some nice cuts. when I have made an error like that and it is the end of the project, one trick i use is to take a nail and put some wood glue on it. the use the nail to spread the glue. It isnt perfect, but unless someone gets right up to it, no one will know. Just a thought.
  12. I concur with your statement regarding P-38, but the transition to P-51's was rough as the 38's props counter rotated making the 51 harder to land as they had to compensate for the torque. straight from a dude who landed in England and on his way into the base, watched a 51 crash on landing.
  13. Hope you have a speedy recovery. I am trying to prevent a double knee replacement. Only time will tell if I can avoid it. good luck.
  14. No Star Wars related, but I had a chance to talk with a gentlemen who flew a P-38 over the invasion fleet and my grandfathers head on the night of 5/6 June 44. it was one of the few moments in my life where I was speechless.
  15. You do not need more coffee. I made it for a Star Wars fan and thought Zebrawood from Africa would be a good choice. Thanks!
  16. I know I am late in this, but the first one is a door knocker and first thing I did with a scroll saw. Just pine. The bottom is Zebra wood with teak oil finish. I really like Zebrawood and the finish is gives, almost as much as canary Wood. Anyways, enjoy.
  17. @amazingkevin, thank you, but I did that my previous life as an aircraft mechanic, find bad bearings and have them replaced. just glad I don't need nitrogen on a scroll saw.
  18. Thank you all for sharing this. It helps us less knowledgeable.
  19. Bare with me on this. The top photo is an F-16 as we were coming home. It is a unit that a mentor of mine was in during WWII. The bottom photo is a cut I made of his aircraft from the same unit, just 70 years later. The middle photo is one I made for my workcenter that operates F-16’s. I was torn which one to post because the P-51 is an awesome aircraft that changed the tide of the war and I am honored to know this gentleman, but yet I worked on or around for close to 30 years. Now one can see my problem? That is why I have both.
  20. Good job, I have been accused of working both those aircraft at one point.
  21. Thank you very much. I truly enjoyed it.
  22. That was exactly what I was asking! Thank you for the nuggets up.
  23. Welcome to SSV! Like you, I prefer old iron that has been tested and proven. I started scrolling last Oct when I was given a vintage 13 inch craftsman from about 1990. Three months later, I upgraded. I chose a Dewalt 788 type 1. It was a bit of a challenge to find one in my area, so I had to have it shipped. Ended up spending about as much as a new one, but as soon as I tried it, it was purring like a kitten. since then, I have lubed all the bearings. It runs like a dream. I am sure you already know, but type 1's were made in Canada where two 2's are from Asia. Every lot or batch has their own bad actors or friday machines (built on a friday when no one cares). I have seen more negative things about type 2's though. yes there is a good chance of getting a good one, but like all, it is a roll of the dice. In the end, it is what you want and I hope you get what you like.
  24. Thanks for sharing this. The last time I used my dremel, it started to overheat and I ended up taking a few mandatory breaks for it to cool down.
  25. I was like you with the same price range. I thought about a shop fox. It didn't tickle my fancy. I ended up finding a Dewalt 788 type 1 that with shipping pushed 500 with a stand, and a light. might have been a little too much for a 20 year old saw, but I have absolutely loved it. I have since tore it down and replaced all bad bushing, which was one. I would say a Dewalt or delta as they are about the same. It is up to you though as it is your money. If I had to do this all over again, I would still take the Dewalt 788 Type 1 as it is North American built. Type 2's are made in either China or Taiwan (Senior moment I am experiencing) and from what I have leaned, it is a roll of the dice with them. Good luck.
