  1. Thank you for the photo as it helps a lot describing your problem. I have experienced this a lot. I now use Maple 1/2 plywood and it splinters some, just not as much. I have used basswood plywood and while more expensive, doesn’t have this problem and is a dream to work with.
  2. I don’t have any experience in this, but maybe put some painters tape might help.
  3. Outstanding!
  4. @thatknobtony, so you can see.
  5. Excellent idea! Never hurts to use a scroll saw.
  6. @wombatie, is this something you can help out with? Just a thought.
  7. Great work! His nephew was a substitute teacher in my high school in western New York. They are all good humans!
  8. Exquisite work! I have thought about trying something like this, but not ready for it I think. Well done!
  9. I am laughing with you. I have a habit of working on something and when I get a different tool/move to a different one, I forgot to plug it in. I work in my garage and have to usually move vehicles to do anything. Every time I try using a tool unplugged, I notice the cord and say to myself “you jackleg!”.
  10. Since you took a sabbatical, I have joined the SSV family. I am glad that you are still vertical as that is always a good way to start a day. Excellent work. One thing I love about the village is how there is so many different projects and all of them are great. I look forward to seeing me of your work, but more importantly, your able to do what you enjoy! Welcome back!
  11. I must admit that it is some fine work, right side or not. I have learned very quickly with my Dewalt when the blade is upside down because of the amount of dust on top of the work. This also leads me to my golden rule that if I can’t see the kerf of a blade, not going to use it. That would have been good 20 years ago, but with age, there are less blades I can use.
  12. @annis, I bought my Dewalt type 1 in Jan of this year. I asked here and had a ton of insight. Like you, I started to become nervous about buying an old saw, but what I received is an absolute dream. I fall in love with it every time I cut in it. Just remember to take into consideration of all these great comments and use them for an informed decision. In the end, it is up to what you decide. Each person has their own experiences, some good, some not so good. I hope this helps.
  13. @octoolguy brings up a great point in that people lose interest fast. Like you, I did not want to have a type 2 Dewalt, so I searched high and low and was able to find a type 1 Dewalt. Granted, it is 20 years old. I upgraded from a 40 year old 13 in craftsman. I live in a rural area, so I had to look far and after all was said and done, I spent almost as much for a brand new saw to be delivered to a big box store and hour away, and the one I received had a Dewalt stand and light mounted. So I kinda made out ahead, but when I plugged in the saw and turned it on, it began singing a sweet hum. I am so glad I found the one I did. If you go this route, be careful and listen to these guys on here. They guided me.
  14. I can say the same too!
  15. You are proving why I love scrolling, always something to learn and crosstalk is flowing!
  16. Thank you very much for the comments. I was able to push myself with confidence because of SSV nation support.
  17. Ever since I started scrolling, wife has wanted a Harry Potter. I just finished the backing and attached. Hope you guys enjoy viewing it.
  18. Excellent choice in the pattern and very well executed!
  19. Just when I think I am making strides, you show off some of your work and put me back in place. . Well done!
  20. Amazing idea! Well done.
  21. Well done on this gem. Pretty sure a bomb could be dropped on it and it would not only still work, but be accurate as well! Good find!
  22. Thank you all for the comments. Hopefully someone will find this useful in aiding In a decision.
  23. I normally don’t write reviews for items, however; I made a quarantine buy. Ordered it through Papa’s workshop and it arrived today. Instructions were so easy, a caveman could do it. Finally sat down to try it rather than a block of wood and all I can say is why didn’t I do this sooner. Makes scrolling even easier. Only reason I am writing this is in case someone was on the fence like I was. Best 45 dollars I have spent all lock down!
  24. Welcome to SSV nation. These people had me from beginner to detailed cuts. Vast amount of knowledge here and they don't play "I have a secret".
  25. Lol, well played sir and thank you.
