  1. Thank you very much for the comments. I guess I pasted my final exam! Showed some guys at work and they want one there too. I guess on to grad school?!?
  2. Welcome to the village. This hobby is addictive fast. Took me someone giving me a thirty year old saw to get me hooked.
  3. @dgman, that is how I tackled it, one section at a time and one hole at a time. Thank you.
  4. SSV nation, I joined in January and one of the first things I saw was a skull pattern. It reminded me of a good friend whom I have known for 20 years. I made a promise to myself that once I cut this skull, I have achieved my goal and I can cut just about anything. Below is the photo with 1/4 maple plywood and thin backing. The lesson learned here is to only have friends that like unicorns and not skull.
  5. You just made me drool with that!
  6. @amazingkevin, you probably wore those saws out because you can cut a mountains worth of trees in about two days.
  7. Like new saw said, maybe needs to be broke in, but before I take a stab at it, does the acceleration occur when your not cutting wood? Also, does it occur at different speeds like that? I don’t own a Jet, but these are an attempt to isolate the problem. I have a Dewalt 788 Type 1 and I can run it at any speed without any problems. Just my two cents.
  8. Welcome to SSV and that is amazing work! well done.
  9. Like everyone has said, to each their own. I started with Olson because they were the only local brand available. I then went online and picked a Flying Dutchman brand mainly because I work with a Dutchman who flies. I started with an intro pack and saw which ones I used and now order them from Leslies saw blades. There is a reference page in SSV of where to get products. That might help you with not only blades, but other items.
  10. Bama is short for University of Alabama. The reference is to college football. Alabama’s “rival” is University of Tennessee. I say rival, it is like Australia vs Guam in Futebol.
  11. Welcome to the village! Like you, I am pretty new, only 6 months into it. I have learned a lot from this site. I was given a Crasftman 13 in saw from 1990. Like you, I prefer time tested iron. I did a lot of research and keyed in on a Dewalt type 1. They changed to type two at about 2001/2002. The difference is type 1 has a motor made in Canada and type 2 has one from Taiwan or China, (old age setting in). Anyways, I found two type ones. One in Dallas and one in Erie, PA. There were some people who thought I was making a mistake with an older machine, however; for me, it has been perfect. I love my desalt type 1. My point is to take your time and make the best decision for you. After shipping, I could have had a brand new Dewalt, but the older one had the stand and light (not much of a difference, but what I needed). Enjoy and please feel free to ask any questions you have. Had I not asked, I would not be were I am today in scrolling.
  12. @meflick, I know that feeling as we have that school up north of us that is the same way. When I hear someone talking trash, I just say that everyone is allowed one mistake.
  13. You did an amazing job and hard to tell it’s your first. Well done!
  14. Thanks for the words. We don’t have any here is South Carolina and I find it weird that there would be bama fans within three zip codes of Tennessee, any part.
  15. Now that is funny. I used to have season tickets for the Gamecocks, but had to step back for medical reasons. Haven’t payed any attention to it in over a year. I think that might give me a pass, I hope.
  16. I have not had any dealings, but per Mr. Coyote, Willy that is, they are no good.
  17. Cut this for a going away present. Used a 3 UR FD blade and red cedar. I then dipped in teal oil. Satisfied with the results, but strive for perfection. Hope you guys enjoy it.
  18. Glad your feeling better. I have been there myself and understand the struggle. Just glad you didn’t give into that monster.
  19. Kevin, When that happens to me, I end up blacking out for a while.
  20. Alright SSV Nation, I have been on a mission to update the house in the last two years. I laid flooring down at the start of quarantine, but one thing that has been bugging me. So to update the 1980’s door chime cover. I even let the War Dept. (My wife) choose the pattern. Hope this helps to inspire someone.
  21. Holy jumping beans Batman! You have done a lot in a short time. Make me feel like I have been slacking.
  22. Not sure how long you been doing this, but that is some top shelf stuff right there!
  23. Thanks for sharing and that is Amazing! Excellent work.
  24. Welcome to the village! Your off to a great start. I haven’t been scrolling long myself, but this community has given me confidence to push the envelope. Now I am doing work that my co-workers look at in amazement. I owe it to this community.
