Cute!! Very Cute. Bet it was quite a chore cutting that hat fuzz on the Scroll saw!

Dick, Not sure where I got them from but it is not typeable font. It is a series of individual SGV files (numerals and Upper/Lower case letters called Handwritten. It is nice because you can place the letters where you want them and they are editable in Inkscape. For example I had to stretch the "dot" in the"i" so it was not an island.. Here is a zip file: Handwritten.zip Enjoy. Show us your creation.

To me this was not a picture, just a play on what I think of as a FLORIDA Winter Wonderland. Most of the Winter Wonderland patterns I found had snow flakes and pine trees, which was not very appropriate for a Florida welcoming sign. Anyone who might like to have the pattern just has to ask. I put it together in Inkscape. Anything can replace the Palm trees.

Hey Dan, Welcome to the Village from a little South of you on the East Coast of Central Florida. Better save those pennies fast as you will want to get a decent saw as soon as possible. This is a great hobby but even more great when you use the right tools and a good quality saw. This is a good place to learn and meet great people

Your grandaughters wll love them. Nice clean cutting. Material looks thin...what is it? Was stack cutting not an option?

Tony, hope you don't mind me jumping onto your thread. Just thought I would just add my 8" dia version from the original pattern unmodified. Cut panel is 5/32" Maple solid core ply affixed to a 1/2" thk sanded ply backer. Too large and heavy to be a real tree onament so I just made it a plaque that will be hung on a wall when I decorate for christmas. I used some Red, Green and Black Acrylic Craft paint to add some color. Cut with Pegas #0 Spiral blades and finished with multiple coasts of clear gloss Polyurethane as it may be hung outside. I can see in the pic my cutting is not as good as Tony's. I think I hurried a little too much. However, when viewed from a distance it looks OK. Thanks to meflick for posting up the link to the Pattern. I sure others will jump on this pattern and cut their version.

I did not actually record the number of hours at the saw. Guessing, I would say about 12 to 15 hours. I don't spend more than 3 houirs at one time at the saw and that is often interuppted by other chores that crop up. Also, I lose a lot of cutting time replacing broken blades . I do know that I have become a lot more proficient using spiral blades and the REAL cut time is a lot less that if I tried to do this kind of pattern with a straight cutting blade.

In a post Remembrance Day "Wreath" by Frank Pellow I made the following comment: "Also a nice idea to hang a seasonal welcome sign. I have the "Happy Fall Y'all" hanging right now, just need to find a few patterns for the other seasons...snow is not quite appropriate here in Florida." I did some searching and could not find an appropriate pattern for Winter in Florida so I made this pattern. Words and trees cut from 1/4" Maple solid core Plywood and affixed to a 1/2" sanded plywood backer painted Oaisis Blue. Trees painted with acrylic craft paints. Plaque mde weather proof with multiple coats of spray clear gloss polyurethane. Come the Winter solstice I'll swap my "Happy Fall y'all" plaque for this "Welcome to Our Winter Wonderland" plaque. I've got some time to find and cut some appropriate patterns for Spring and Summer in Florida plaques. .

Oak Ply, not solid. Started with 2/0 spirals, but broke too many to quickly.

WElcome to the SVV. Nice first project...well done. Just a suggestion, remember most often scroll saw projects are all about the wood and contrast between the cut and backer (when used). Oh, BTW, you forgot the apostrophe in the work "can't" .

I cut this 11X14 Alex Fox Pattern titled Eagle-Flag from 1/4 inch thick Oak solid core plywood, that I stained with Minwax Weathered Oak stain to enhance the Oak color. The cut panel was affixed it to a 1/4 inch thick Mahogany solid core plywood backer that I darkened with Minwax Mahogany stain to improve the contrast. The panel was finished with multiple coats of spray lacquer. The cut was done exclusively with Pegas #0 spiral blades. Cutting the Oak was slightly more challenging than the Maple or BB Plywood I usually use. Had to cut a little slower and even the cutting sound was different. After the cut was complete the vertical grain alignment produced an interesting look. The panel is loose fit into a solid Red Oak Frame which I made and also darkened with the Minwax Mahogany stain. The Frame was finished with multiple coats of clear Gloss Polyurethane.

Great work, I have fond...err, maybe not so fond actually... memories of using my son-in-laws Ford Bronco to move my heavilly loaded 26 foot travel trailer (without swaybars) from the Poconos in Pa. down to the Asheville area of NC in 1996. A normal approximately 8 hour trip turned into an 18 hour, two day trip, with lots and lots of difficulties along the way. Much too long a story to go into here. However, when we finally got to NC I was sure I was going to blow the engine up pulling the trailler up the Contenetal Divide I-40 grade in NC...not sure how but we made it. That Bronco actually made three more round trips from NY to NC before my son-in-lar sold it. As they say "Thanks for the Memories".

All Great work. Particularly liked the Wings/Roots plaque. And I allways like Eagles...just in the process of finishing an Eagle/Flag cut muself.
