  1. I'm with everyone in aplauding our pattern makers. I'm not a pattern maker but have done a little in Inkscape to make minor mods, so I have a feeling for the amount of work involved and it makes me even more appreciative of what thay do.
  2. My lady's name is Robin, but she loves Hummingbirds...now ain't that a contradiction. I guess that is why she calls herself "Bird Brain". Steve Good included the "initialhummer.pdf" in a recent e-mail so you can guess I just had to make the "R" for Robin. I modified it litttle to make it into a framed piece rather than a Hanging ornament. Lots of holes - 12 to be exact - cut mostly with Pegas #1 mgt and #2/0 spiral. Perimeter cut done with #3 mgt. She hasn't seen it yet so it gets wrapped and put under the tree for Christmas morning, Cut is 5/32" Maple solid core ply approx 9" x 8" with a Walnut Solid Core Ply backer darkened with Minwax Walnut stain. Added a 12' x 10" mat with a third pice of BB ply Panel finished with multiple coats of spray gloss Lacquer. The custom frame is Poplar with a routed decorative inside edge stained with Minwax Eexpresso and finished with Wipe On Poly.

NIce. About 15 hour cut, correct?
  4. Beautiful. Bet your arm got tired.
  5. Welcome back to the Village, to a past member from a fairly new member. I see you are located in Jax, Fl. I'm also on the East Coast of Central Florida in Ormond Beach about an hour South.
  6. So nice, it is a shame to cover it up with a cook book. The overall construction is just super!
  7. Fitting subject for a gift to your mail person. Very well cut and framed.
  8. Great plaque I'm positive he will cherish. very well done. I especially love the rope piping. Hope his retirement includes "Fair Winds and a Following Sea". Edit: Hope you dont mind, but I rotated your pic and croped it so all can see how nice it is.
  9. Realy nice. Frame is well done. Just curious, what finish did you apply to the cut BB?
  10. Yep and ditto to all the previous!
  11. Jjust one word: Beautiful!!
  12. Looks good...very interesting. Did you allow the color to get on the cut surface delibertly or is that just in the picture?
  13. Extreamly nice. The grain works very well with the subject. Really adds to the ilusion. That piece of pine must be quite old. You dont see that kind of grain in the pine you see in the lumber yards these days.
  14. Ok, you got the pic back in the post and it looks great. So why not add some info to go with it. Pics are necessary but the story that goes with the project is also great to read. Your post title make me want to know more.
  15. Yes I did and I downloaded it. Will cut the "R" for her in next few days.
  16. Nothing open when I click on that attachment.
  17. I'm kinda a Nutcracker collector. I have over 40 of them I that I put out each year for Xmas. Ususally add to the collection each year, this year being no exception I bought a 3' tall piece that stands on the floor garding my rear entry. I jumped on the site and purchased the pattern, grabbed the freebe and a chess set just in case I get in the mood.. Not sure when I will get to it, but it probably won't be for this Xmas. Looks like a fun little project. Thanks for sharing.
  18. The pattern was purchased from Scrooler website and was slightly modified to suit an 11X14 panel. Cut panel is 5/32" Maple Solid Core Plywood affixed to a painted black 1/8" BB Plywood Backer. I used a combination of Pegas #2/0 Spiral and Mgt R Blades. The cutting was relatively easy although the pattern has a number of long, poorly supported, areas that proved to be challenging to prevent accidental breakage until glued to the backer. The panel is finished with multiple coats of spray Lacquer and set lose in a commercial frame. This piece was requested by my daughter as a Christmas gift for special family friend who is a Decon in her Church. It took USPS over a week to get me the pattern from Scrooler located in Michigan so I was under a little time crunch to produce this piece in time to get it to NY via FedEx for Christmas. It was completed in two long Days and will be packaged and shipped today, thus the choice to use a store bought frame.
  19. Great Job. I assume if your uncle is like me, a Harley Rider, he will love it for his man cave and display it with pride. I made one of those a while back but it did not come out anywhere as good as that looks. I note you did the real Logo, cutting evey piece individually and afixing them to the backer. Did you use one of H-D's window stickers as a template?
  20. I think the portait is wonderful. Great cutting. However, I'm going to be blunt,as this just my opinion, so take if for whatever it worth. I know I will get some greif but being perfectly honest, I Do not like the flame torched border. Yep, it easy and takes little effort to do as opposed to makeing a real frame, but again , in my opinion, I think it totaly destroys your work. Sorry if I hurt feelings.
  21. That is a really outststanding cut. Other than the work WELCOME the panel screames use a spiral blade. I'd be using mostly a #1 Pegas spiral to cut it. Probably a #3 Pegas mgt R for the Font. For only three layers of 1/8" BB ply, almost any blade you like will work A #1 and/or #3 is probably you best bet although I would not hesitate to use a #2/0 for some of the smaller detail areas. Just remember, when the panel gets thicker...push slower and let the blade do the work!
  22. Welcome to the Village from the Never White South...the East Coast of Central Florida to be exact. The 21" Pegas scroll saw is very popular with many member in this forum including myself. Great Saw for the price. Contact Dennis Knappen at [email protected] , he is one of our members and is a supplier of the Pegas saw. You can't beat his pricing. Shoud yo purchas a Pegas, do your self a favor and get the Pegas stand. Very sturdy and well worth the price. Tow other important things to get from day one is a Foot Switch and a bright high magnification LED extension arm lamp. You wont be sorry.
  23. Yep, very nice. Just wondering how many are actually old enough to remember Tom & Jerry although it seems there is a lot of old fogies who do this thing called scroll work.
  24. Very nice. Yep, I agree that Barn Red works good for Christmas.
  25. Wonderfully simple...and...simply wonderful!
