  1. Marie, it’s all one scroll saw pattern, and the Leopard and tree were stained with a local product we get here in South Africa. The Leopards colouring can vary from area to area.
  2. Thank you Marg.
  3. Sadly it will only be after relocating.
  4. Scrappile I used a local product here in South Africa, the Leopard received one coat of Medium Oak and the tree was Antique Oak also just one coat. I feel I got the counting I had in mind based on the hundreds of photographs I have of them. Depending on the area the could be a colour variance.
  5. Frank that’s just a board I’m using until I do the framing, the Leopard will be mounted on a 3mm supawood backer and then I choose the right color board and texture.
  6. Just finished this beautiful patter by Russ Beard, double stack cut on 4mm Birch Plywood using a #0 Niqua straight pin less blade. Needs to be varnished and framed. I have cut another five Russ Beard pattern but I’m not ready to post them yet. My workshop is in turmoil at the moment as we are packing and relocating to Cape Town, South Africa. So I’m very limited as to what I can do at the moment. Love doing these Fretwork Complex cuts, gives me great satisfaction.
  7. This was done for a client on 1/4 Birch Ply, finished with Danish Oil, light Oak Stain and varnished. She’s very happy with the result.
  8. Did this Russ Beard pattern for a customer, used 1/4” ply wood, cut with a #0 pin less blade, finished with two coats Danish Oil, light coat Mahogany Stain and two coats clear varnish. I’m happy with the end result and so is the customer.
  9. You right Bob considering I only do Fretwork Complete ( to give it correct name) they are usually dipped in Danish Oil etc. etc I then get a coat or two of clear varnish. All my cuts are then framed and get hung up in my workshop.
  10. Thanks all for the feed back, read on the internet that BLO and mineral spirits is not a good mixture to keep mix in quantity in your workshop. I’m also concerned about the long term appearance if the cuts are framed.
  11. So it look like BLO is the way to go thinned with mineral spirits and use it as a dip. I can get both here. Gene, Danish Oil is $23 for 1/2 pint.
  12. Watco is available here but also expensive.
  13. Hi to you all, I have a question and would welcome your suggestions, just bear in mind not everything you use is available in South Africa. I have up until now used Danish Oil as my finishing and protective coat, normal procedure is to soak it in Danish Oil for about five minutes the let it drain off and then a final wipe to remove the excess oil. The thing is that Danish Oil is becoming very expensive here and I need to find a good alternative, it has been suggested on another group that the I should use Boiled Linseed Oil. This available here and a lot cheaper than Danish Oil, my concern is, is it as good as Danish Oil and how would I apply it, I’ve never used it before so I need some advice from the experts out there please.
  14. Thank yo, there’s lot more to come to complete the project.
  15. That’s great, a medal for which one?
  16. Thank you for your encouraging comments.
