  1. I use magnifying goggles. They don't limit me to one tool like an attached glass would.
  2. Your cutting is really nice. The record piece is intriguing. What problems do you encounter using flat blades with the vinyl?
  3. Beautiful cuttings.
  4. Thank you for pointing me to your work. It's absolutely awesome! I was able to figure out your process on many pieces. But there were a few that has me stumped. Your artistry and skill with the saw in combination with the burrs is amazing.
  5. For about seven years, I used a no name Laser. When it died, it wasn't immediately replaced as we were in the process of selling our home and moving. I now have a still in the box Ortur with a more powerful Neje laser unit. I had visions of doing some cutting but, with this gifted DW 788, that idea has been somewhat discarded. So, the laser will be relegated to simple engraving tasks. As kmmcrafts noted, engraving a logo on one offs are hardly worth the effort.
  6. You started young, didn't you? Our twin sons are 43 the 22nd of this month and I'm 82.
  7. Please explain for this novice, what is a "carved fretwork" technique?
  8. Same here, Bob. Carter guides on both. When I first used those guides I was blown away by the improvement in accuracy. I no longer need to account for drift when resawing. Of course a good blade goes a long way in that regard.
  9. It's been a while since you posted those neat candleholders. How did your pricing work out?
  10. SUH-WEET!
  11. I've got one. Used it to drill angled holes in the edge of two bys for short lengths of EMT for a lumber rack. I used the Wixey angle gauge to get my angles.
  12. Try Amazon, Bob. Making Wooden People & Pets with Personality: 24 Easy Projects for the Scroll Saw (Fox Chapel Publishing) Full-Size Patterns for Beginners and Intermediate Scrollers to Create Handmade Gifts in Wood Mine's on order.
  13. Just gathering info and repurposing some tools to begin scrolling. My stash of tools includes a couple Shopsmiths, a couple dremels and plunge bases as well as a DeWalt 788. for small bits, I have a micro chuck that fits inside the Shopsmith drill chuck. (I thought it was called a pin vise but, was informed that wasn't the correct term.) IDK if any of the Dremel chucks will close tight enough on the smaller, wire sized, bits. I hope so, as using the Shopsmith drill press is a hassle.
  14. Well, it's been around 90 days since the last post to this topic so, to keep it alive, here's another one. I'm glad there's a topic like this so I can participate. I was given a barely used DW 788 last June. But, I'm so covered up with other woodworking projects that it has just sat idle on the bench since getting it in the shop. I'm nearing the end of the current list of projects. By Christmas, they will be done and dusted. YEA!!! You Tube scrollers, Steve Good and THIS FORUM have all contributed to increasing the desire to get started cutting. This forum and, you contributors, have and continue to be, a fantastic source of information and inspiration. Thank you all.
  15. Great job! The paint job is well done, too. Next up a cotton picker?
  16. Another well done project, Kris. As others have commented, that grass had to be tough. Very nice scene.
  17. Beautiful job, Kris.
  18. Beautiful cutting.
  19. ! went to grade school with a Jacqualyn. She was Jack or, Jackie to her friends.
  20. Dick, did you find this pattern or, make it yourself? Thanks.
  21. There's a fellow on the Gwinnet Woodworkers You Tube channel that does a lot of puzzles. He doesn't use any patterns. Just uses and repeats the normal interlocking puzzle joint. Because he doesn't use a pattern, each puzzle is different and, he can vary the complexity.
  22. PLEASE! And, thank you!!!!!
  23. The VA only requires my "last name and last 4". Seems that should be good enough for HD.
  24. I've wondered the same thing.
