  1. Hmmm.....
  2. Barb, I've always thought of you as a woman of note. Thanks for the confirmation. I won't string this out too far except to say NICE WORK. You do know how to pick your projects.
  3. Now, that is absolutely gorgeous, Ron. Love the base and frame. But, above all, your cutting and inlay work is superb!
  4. Outstanding, Robert. Elmendorf or Eielson ?
  5. These old eyes need the magnification. Almost need it to walk across the floor.
  6. I bought a pair of small magnetized LED sewing machine lights. Goose necked and light weight. One on either side of the arm makes for no shadows. For magnification, I use a wearable magnifier, like a pair of glasses, with flip up lenses. Being wearable, there's nothing to adjust when you move your viewing angle.
  7. Good ole HF sells packs of blade lubricating sticks. I bought them to use with the SS blades but, I'll bet they'd help with heat build up in smaller drill bits and hard wood.
  8. Great cutting, Thurman. How does mesquite cut? I've got several good sized 8/4 slabs for tables and, a number of 4/4 planks. All live edge. Most have lots of worm holes of various descriptions. You never know what you'll find when you open up one with the BS. I'd think you'd need to be quite judicious in selecting stock for scrolling. Hey, Happner Guy, you ever try it? Mine comes from Dead Tree Salvage near you.
  9. It may be overly ambitious for me but, this pattern may be my first serious attempt at other Than simple animal cut outs. Thank you very much, Charlie.
  10. I use a bandsaw to rip them along the 1.5 side. I'll be scrolling the 3.5 face.
  11. Thank you all for your replies. The pieces are only 12" long. And, I've only cut one at 1/2. A 3/4 cut would yield one and, one not quite as thick but, usable. I've got 14 of those one footers. That's 28 pieces...if my math is right. Depending on the sizes of the patterns, I might get two or more animals per piece after resawing. Certainly enough to keep me occupied for awhile.
  12. Got several short pieces of 2X4. Been resawing to 1/2". Wondering if you folks think it's worthwhile for use as scrolling material for simple animal shapes. Thanks for your replies.
  13. I think that envisioning a piece as nice as this one is an art in itself. Well done, Charlie!
  14. Steve Good just did a review on the latest iteration of the "Scrollnado" dust collection system. He discussed a little vacuum that work really well with that system. Sorry. I don't remember the brand name. But a YouTube search would find the review.
  15. I have 3 drill presses. One is a shopsmith, one is a stand that takes a drill. Pretty neat gadget. The base can be tilted to any angle up to 45°. Came in handy when drilling angled holes into my shop wall for EMT to hold clamps and extension cords. The 3rd one is a Dremel work station. Works great for those wire sized bits.
  16. WOW!!! What absolutely amazing work. Your drill press sure got a work out.
  17. Great work. The combination of the saw and laser is inspired. What type of laser do you have?
  18. An absolutely gorgeous piece. You captured your subject perfectly. And, of course, your choice of wood was very apt.
  19. Great work. Wonderful gift. You're a good brother.
  20. Wichita, your cuttings are awesome. And your design abilities ain't too shabby, neither! We miss you over on TPWW.
  21. Excellent cutting. My lightly used De Walt 788 was a gift from my BIL who never used it. IDK how he acquired it. At any rate, I'm slowly getting acquainted with it. One of the books I bought after I got the saw was one of Carol Rothmans bowls and boxes book. That, and YouTube videos about bowls and vases have me throughly fascinated. Once I get more proficient at simple flat work, containers are high on my list. But, then there's intarsia and, inlays and, compound cutting and the list keeps growing. I really need to get my ADD under control. Although, at 82 years of age, that may be a lost cause.
  22. Double ditto.
  23. Beautiful chess pieces...both sets. And, your table is super, too.
