  1. Welcome Jay from Randleman, North Carolina You are on the right site for help and/or information. Great bunch of people here at The Village. Jim Barnes
  2. I use a sewing machine LED with magnetic base lamp (I have several of these in my shop on other tools). I have prescription reading glasses that are rated a 175 but for scroll sawing I use a good quality 250. I like the better quality because the leanse are clearer than the cheaper ones.
  3. I just got back into scrolling about 2-3 years ago. I had and older HF that I purchased about 10 years before but knew that I needed a smother operating and pinless saw to improve my choice of available blades. I went to a woodworkers show and tried a few up scale saws but didn't want to break the bank. I purchased a Wen LL215, 21 inch I think they still sell for about $375. I am very happy with that sa and no problems. But even since then there are a a lot of lower priced saws have come to market. PS i'm 81 now!.
  4. I too am 5'6" tall. I was told by a a old time woodworker for me to start out by that standing-up straight with your arms to your side and bent at the elbow. He said that should be your bench height. I believe that should be a good starting point. I like my router table higher than that at about chest height standing. My scroll saw is with a bench slanted to chest height at a sitting position.
  5. I tried spiral blades several year back but I really didn't like then. Now that I am more experience I may try them again. I like the concept.
  6. I am thinking about the Keda Dye Color Kit and mixing with water. Is that a good choice? Also I stated pine wood but I will be using it on other wood too.
  7. I have read many of the postings on this site regarding wood dyes. I would like to try a few colors on pine but I’m not sure what type/brands are best. I want to buy a few of the basic colors (red, blue, etc.) to try. Some of the dyes I looked at seem to be expensive so I don’t want to buy a bunch of stuff that I can’t use. I have done that too many times already on other projects.
  8. If it doesn't have a motor on it I don't use it! LOL
  9. Beautiful
  10. Since I made this post I purchased a Yangtuodetou Electric Chisel Wood Cutter which came in a nice case with 20 Blades. I payed about $65 USA with free shipping through ebay. Seems to work OK and fun to play around with. Not sure at this point how it will fit into my woodworking but if it does I will look into a better tool.
  11. Welcome Rubin from central North Carolina.
  12. My wife and I 4 years ago moved from Charlotte, North Carolina to a small town in central NC. Not that we really wanted to but because of the cost of living in the larger cities. We love it, people actually talk to you here, and we don't miss the "big" city rudeness.
  13. Welcome from North Carolina
  14. Wow I learned a new word today "fretsaw". I had to look it up. If a saw doesn't have a motor attached I don't use it. LOL
  15. Me too, at 80 it's hard to learn new stuff. A few years back I got CNC machine, bought a special table for it, set up a water cooling system, paid a young CNC guy to spend a day with me to show me how to use it. And a week later sent it back at a shipping cost of $100. And that was 5-6 years ago....now AI! No wayLOL
  16. Has anyone tried a power carving tool? I talking about the $80++ range tools. I thank I may have some use for something like this but I don't want to break the bank trying one out. I see the YUCHENGTECH Electric Chisel Carving Tool Electric Wood Chisel Electric Woodwo on ebay for $88 + S&H.
  17. Very nice
  18. I know many artist, crafters, makers sell stuff on web (pinterest, etsy...) but it my opinion is that you may sell a item but you may have another hundred or so people use these sites just whom steal your ideas. But this happens at shows too. I have had people take pictures of our stuff and if you give them the "look" they say they are sending a the picture to show "someone". I have had someone even measure a item. This past fall I have a woodworker who made pens and had his booth next to me two or three years. This past fall he now all a sudden shows up with items the same as I sell and set up next to me. I guess I don't have answer to your question other to your own thing.
  19. I lived in the Willington (Murrayville) area for 12 years. Loved it there. Still have lots of friends there.
  20. Good idea, but I'll give it a try. I use (used) USPS, UPS, and FedX boxes when I make a pattern for wood toy making. Easy to store and free.

My "intarsia / segmentation". These were the first two that we made. For others we used a clear mat over coat which I think looks better. These we kept but all the others sold at first show because I believe they are someone else's pattern.
