That makes sense!!!

Recently I cut a 3 cm width piece of pine, see picture (Steve Good's pattern). After a few days, the piece of wood started to crack and there were fissures all around. I knew this might happen because the wood was really fresh green, but I just wanted to give it a try. After two weeks, all the cracks simply disappeared, as if the wood shrinked to its original shape. Unfortunately I don't have a picture with the cracks. Since I am a total newbie, I just wanted to ask if this is kind of normal and if you know the reason why this happened. Thanks!

I think it's very reasonable. I must say that I use my P100 with every cut. And sanding, for example, outside might also help.

Thanks for the insight. For the moment being it's only scroll saw projects. But even the small amount of dust it produces, I can "feel" the dust in the air, so I am afraid that as soon as I increase the activity with the band saw, the problem will be much bigger. I use the mask even when I am outside sanding and I don't get close to the scroll saw without it. Perhaps I am too cautious.

You are right. Maybe there is no need to make a really big investment for the moment being. I have been searching the forum and one thing seems clear, the most important seems to be "attacking" the dust on the source. I might concentrate my efforts on this point, right now.

I need to solve my dust problem in my new shop. I am really concerned about dust and I'd like to enjoy wood working with the peace of mind that I am in a more or less healthy environment. I am using for the moment being this respirator for the scroll saw and sanding. Apart from the sanding machine, there is a band saw on the way and, in a near futher, also a lathe. I am practising with available wood of different thick (unfortunately I am not very close to direct suppliers). But I agree with you that maybe I did not choose the straightest way. I am cutting some pieces with not so many angles for the moment.

I tried today "smaller" blades... It was a great difference. Not so many mistakes and a more fluid cutting. Thanks everyone for your answers and help.

I thought that the thickest the blank is, the bigger the blade should be. I will try some #5 and reduce the speed. I am not cutting complicated patterns (I am a newby), but I am having problema cutting some angles and keeping straight lines.

Thanks, I am totally new to scroll sawing and I guess that most of my problems are not related to the type of wood or blades, but to my lack of skills. I guess that patience and practice might do the job. I am using Pégas blades. I am afraid I can't get here some Polar blades to give them a try, so probably I will have to attach to the Pégas.

I just started to cut some wood and try my new Pégas. Where I live I have a rich source of pine wood and these have been the first pieces I tried. I just wanted to know your experience with this kind of wood (I guess it's kind of medium soft). The thing is that I have been having some issues cutting 8/6 and 8/8 in. (2,5 - 3,5 cm) with modified geometry blades #9 and Skip reverse #9. I am not sure if it's normal and what is your experience with this thickness. What kind of blades would you recommend? Thank everyone for your opinions and comments. I really appreciate it. I will be making a decision in the next days, so I will let you know. As some of you said, having enough room for such a big saw might be even a more important issue than the extra money. It's amazing finding so many people willing to help and giving their best advice.

Hello, I am looking for a new scroll saw and I would like to ask, if someone in the community has experience with 30" scroll saws. I was thinking about buyint the Pégas 30" saw, but I don't know if the difference with the 21" worths the bigger price. Thank you for your comments.
