  1. Very nice, Dan. Did you do the wheels also or you bought them?
  2. I totally agree. I understand that everybody can have an opinion and some experiences and that these might be really diverse. In that case, I think that specialized articles from authorized people can make the difference and bring some real light about the issue. The problem is when even these articles throw completely opposite views. Then you feel really lost and you don't know who and what to believe. At last, there is nothing better to rely on than "common sense".
  3. I am from Spain, Barb, where we have plenty of olive oil, that might be the reason. You can buy mineral oil for 15 USD for half a litre (about 17 oz), while 1 litre of olive oil is about 5-6 USD.
  4. Thanks Bill, I agree with the rank smell and unpleasant taste, and definitely is a good reason not to use it on cutting boards. But it does not mean that is might be toxic for human beings, as Kevin pointed out according to what he was told. It's interesting, though, that mineral oil, derived from petroleum, is non-toxic.
  5. I never heard of olive oil being toxic. It is not normally recommended if rancid because its bad taste, but nothing more. I did a quick "research" on google and I found some comments on toxicity of rancid olive oil and other saying the opposite, so it's difficult to know where the truth is. I did not find any qualified opinion, though, on any of these two options.
  6. Thanks to everyone for your comments and sharing your experience. Where I live is not so easy to find shellac. I will try for the moment being a mix with olive oil, since it is cheaper than mineral oil and you can find it everywhere.
  7. I am concerned about toxic finishings to wood. This is why I would like to use only natural non-toxic products as olive oil or beewax, specially for toys and chopping or cutting boards. I intended to use raw beewax, but I am afraid that I would have to mix it with some kind of oil for a better application. Turpentine essence is not an option, as well as oils with solvents. What is your experience with beewax and what other products you use with it? My only requirement is not to use anything toxic. Thanks!
  8. I love the wheels. Do you make them too or you buy them separately?

Welcome from Spain, Chas. I started some months ago and I am having real fun with my scroll saw. Here you will find a lot of people willing to ask your questions, so don't hesitate to ask.
  10. I have seen these "new" Pégas blades on sale and I wanted to ask if someone has tried them. They are specially made for hard wood and the manufacturer says that they are "comparable to a miniature band saw". Just curious...
  11. Hi form Spain, Bob, I am another Pegas happy scroller. I think you won't regret the decission.
  12. If I had to choose between the Pegas MGT and the Super Skip, I don't know what would be the winner. Both of them are fantastic blades.
  13. Hi MIke, I also have a Paegas and cannot be any happier (for the moment being). And it's great that you can work outside and avoid all the dust in the shop.
  14. They are really nice. I have heard that it is better to do these boards from hard wood, in order to avoid chipping, but do you know any wood that might be not advisable to be in contact with food because of its toxicity? What kind of finish did you apply, Don?
  15. This is just amazing.
  16. Welcome from Catalonia (Spain)
  17. Thank you for your hints. I already tried the trick heating the plastic bottle and it worked. I can't understand, though, why Pégas and some other manufacturers (like Holzstar) use a port that seems to be clearly complicated, since it's quite difficult to find the right adapters. I haven't tried yet the connection of the vac to the saw as some of you recommended. I will let you know it it works, just in case someone else has the same issue.
  18. 1. I am having real problems to find an adapter for my vac hose. The Pégas has a port of 63 mm, and I couldn't find something with a couple of more mm to fit. I have a temporal solution that doesn't suit me, and I would like something, ideally, on hard plastic. Did you have this problem and how did you solve it? 2. My Vac (it's a Karcher WP 6) has a plug to connect the tool. But it only works sometimes and when it works, it stops after a while. It only happens with the Pégas, not with my other tools. It seems as though the Pégas didn't "send" enough power to switch on the vac. Is this possible? Maybe you had a similar issue with your scroll saws and vacs and you can give me a hint of what's happening. Thanks!
  19. Very nice. Where did you find the pattern, if I may ask?
  20. Awsone.
  21. I agree with that, but on the other hand all the air that passes through both filters comes out clean. So, if you (let's say) stop making dust for good, in a reasonable period of time (depending on how big the shop is) all the air of the shop should be cleaned. Conclusion: I think an air cleaner can help quite a lot!
  22. I have been reading this blog www.billpentz.com, and I ended up with the feeling that scrollsawing is going to kill us all (scrollers and family members). There seems to be nothing that can help... I didn't know I picked such an end-of-the-world hobby... But seriously speaking, do you know this blog (billpentz.com) and what do you think about it?
  23. That makes sense!!!
  24. Recently I cut a 3 cm width piece of pine, see picture (Steve Good's pattern). After a few days, the piece of wood started to crack and there were fissures all around. I knew this might happen because the wood was really fresh green, but I just wanted to give it a try. After two weeks, all the cracks simply disappeared, as if the wood shrinked to its original shape. Unfortunately I don't have a picture with the cracks. Since I am a total newbie, I just wanted to ask if this is kind of normal and if you know the reason why this happened. Thanks!
  25. What kind of finishing did you apply, Pete?
