Ken O Posted August 18, 2016 Report Posted August 18, 2016 Had a model boat club in San Diego request 17 trophies from me a while back. I finally got them done. (16 shown here) Made from Aeromatic cedar and a pine backer to hold it together mounted on an oak base. The bases are about 11 3/4 in long. Usually I charge $20 each but since he ordered so many I dropped it to $17 each. I did stacks of 3 when cutting so I still have a couple others that are spares for later. amazingkevin and DeenaKay 2 Quote

Ken O Posted August 18, 2016 Author Report Posted August 18, 2016 Thanks everyone! These are always fun to do and it's much nicer than just the plain engraved plaque. Quote
heppnerguy Posted August 18, 2016 Report Posted August 18, 2016 You did a really nice job designing, cutting and finishing all of these trophies. It would be fun for you to be able to attend the award ceremonies and see the look on the winners faces. Dick heppnerguy Quote
Ken O Posted August 18, 2016 Author Report Posted August 18, 2016 I gave some trophies to a club earlier this year. There is a husband / wife that both race together. Her boat is actually faster than his so he drove her pink boat that weekend just so he could make sure and get one of my trophies. And he did win the final and got it! It was a cool story to hear. Lucky2 Posted August 19, 2016 Report Posted August 19, 2016 Ken, these trophies look incredible, your clients are sure to be pleased. A couple of questions though, how come you used a different species of wood for the base, and, why did you leave the base so large? Len Quote
Dave Monk Posted August 19, 2016 Report Posted August 19, 2016 Nice job! Love those orders. dave Quote

A couple of questions though, how come you used a different species of wood for the base, and, why did you leave the base so large? Len AHA! good question Len. The bases are large enough to place an aluminum engraved plaque in front of the image. It has the class of boat, club and whatever other info they want. The color of the bases could have been done the same as or similar to the cedar but I didn't think I had enough stain to get them all done and I honestly said "good enough" haha! I've done some with mahogany that matched very well but I don't have much of that left. Not enough to do this many. Lucky2 1 Quote
