Rob Posted November 14, 2016 Report Posted November 14, 2016 I'm fine thanks. We are in Nelson at the top of the South Island. We were rudely awakened on Monday night just after midnight with a strong shake for a couple of minutes. Fortunately we suffered no damage but parts of Nelson lost power and many shops and supermarkets were closed to clean up on Monday. Schools were shut too until checks could be made so the kids had the day off. Kaikoura (on the east coast of the south island) is the worst hit area and is effectively cut off due to massive land slides covering the coast road and railway tracks. Lots of coverage here for anyone interested: http://www.stuff.co.nz/ Rob wombatie 1 Quote
bandaideman Posted November 14, 2016 Report Posted November 14, 2016 Glad to hear you all weathered the shake up. Saw 3 cows stranded after quake. Hope someone can help them out. At least they are on a grassy section sticking out of the ground and can eat. Quote
dgman Posted November 14, 2016 Report Posted November 14, 2016 Thanks for the update Rob. They say the big one is due here in California! Quote

Lucky2 Posted November 15, 2016 Report Posted November 15, 2016 Thank heavens you guys are alright, it has had to be an awful experience for a lot of people. I saw on the news tonight that the three cattle have been saved, a farmer made a path for them to walk down. They had a bit of food, but, they had no water. You could see where they had circled around and around on that small piece of earth, it was not much more than a spot of mud at the end. Len Quote
meflick Posted November 15, 2016 Report Posted November 15, 2016 Glad that Merlin, Rob, and the 3 cows are all safe and sound. Sorry to hear of the devastation in other areas of your Country. I pray for all concerned. Thanks for giving us updates. Quote
