Ideas please!

I am in the process of designing a plaque that will have three small one hanging below a big one. The lady that I am doing the work for asked me if I had a "classy" way to attach them. I take it she does not like the idea of chains. If you have any ideas I would love to hear them. dave

This is pretty standard, you've probably already considered this, but just in case you hadn't, this is my idea.  You could make it any cool way you wanted.  I was thinking even a compound cut would look "classy"  IDK.

Russell has a very good idea. It kinda depends on the theme of the plaque. You might think of using yarn ( color of your choice ) or twine. I really don't like my idea but you may.

Did you ask if she doesn't like chains?  I am sure there is a variety of chains out there.  Copper wire?

There are a few options for different types of chain out there. I've thought of using Rein Chains before, but haven't had a project that really needed chain. Typically they're used between a bit and the reins on a bridle, but are much more fancy, and a bit more expensive, than regular chain. They may be something to look at. A few websites with them are Out West Saddlery, and Custom Cowboy Shop.

 it depends on what "classy" is to the woman.  personally I use sissel twine quite often and it looks good.

 

im trying to think of a search term that could show some images of classy/stylish plaque hangin stuff, but I have a brain fart happening

This doesn't answer your question very well, but for hanging this I took string and painted it with gold craft paint.

I have seen a guy at a craft fair use small strips of leather on some of his projects, I thought it was a great idea and looke very nice!

How does she want the smaller plaques to hang? - horizontal or vertical?

 

Regardless - and along the lines of Russell's thought - I wonder if a brass accent piece (or pieces) used as trim on a contrasting but complementary wood might help to set it off - maybe even fabricate the hangers themselves out of brass.

 

A neat challenge.

Depending on the plaque shapes, would strips of hidden Velcro be another option, IF all are rectangular and the pieces touch?

Dave, could you get away with using ribbon? Years ago, that's all we ever used on our tole painting plaques. It did a perfect job, and you could get contrasting colors, to compliment your work.
