This is from a  pattern by Kathy Wise in SSWC issue 52, Fall of 2013.  I started on it in 2014, and with one thing and another, just got it finished in time to give my wife for Christmas.  It is cut from western cedar, and the various shades of color are from stains and acrylic paint.  Don't know if this would be considered an intarsia or a segmentation, maybe a hybrid?

Now here's a thought ,seeings as most of the wood looks like the same wood are you using a different base for the same stain?Beautiful job by the way.

I used two different oil based stains (golden oak and walnut) for the project, and sealed the wood before staining.  Diluting and mixing the stains got me some more shades to work with.  The black, yellow and white are acrylic paint.  After assembly, I applied spray acrylic to protect everything.
