Trka2002 Posted April 16, 2017 Report Posted April 16, 2017 (edited) A few months ago I found a craft shop located not to far from me. It's located in Mountain Home, AR. It costs $12 a year to be a member but you are required to work in the store two days a month. That helps keep membership fees down. In addition, the shop gets 20% of sales. It's not to bad, it gets me out two days a month and I have a the chance to display my craft. Everything is juried to keep only quality products in the store so it doesn't turn into a junk shop. Still trying to build an inventory to do shows as well but it's a slow process and I'm going to try to start by the end of the year. The craft shop does sponsor two shows a year, they are well run and I'm going to set up my first booth there at the fall show. Phantom Scroller Posted April 16, 2017 Report Posted April 16, 2017 Sounds good to me once everyone knows what you do sell it direct or at different shows save them taking their 20 % Roly SCROLLSAW703 1 Quote
Scrolling Steve Posted April 16, 2017 Report Posted April 16, 2017 That sounds like a good way to get your work out there ! SCROLLSAW703 1 Quote
ike Posted April 16, 2017 Report Posted April 16, 2017 I have done several, some are good and others are not so good. I had one that there was a loss due to thefts, but they marked every thing up to cover it i did ok there and then there wass one where it closed down over night and no body knew whe they really was or where they went, the police wasn't much help I lost a couple hundred dollars worth of crafts but over all it was a good deal over all, Quote
WayneMahler Posted April 16, 2017 Report Posted April 16, 2017 Sounds like a good way to get exposure and meet people. Hoping it all works out for you. Quote
Jim Finn Posted April 16, 2017 Report Posted April 16, 2017 There is a local craft shop that works like that . The reason I never joined them was that the space rent was $40 a month, had to agree to six months participation, and the space is only four feet wide, 18" deep, and four feet tall. I sell at a farmers market that costs me $30 for an outdoor space that is 20 feet by 12 feet deep and as high as I want, with about 2000 shoppers seeing my product every Saturday in the summer. danny 1 Quote
AK Moose Nugget Posted April 17, 2017 Report Posted April 17, 2017 Sounds great. I'll have to see if there is anything like that here in Anchorage. Thanks for the idea!! Quote
Trka2002 Posted April 17, 2017 Author Report Posted April 17, 2017 Jim That does seem high. This shop is run by a craft association and not individually owned. We do rent the building though. That's why are $12 a year fees are so low. Plus with every crafter working two days a month, we don't pay employees to work there. I did think the 20% was a bit high, but rent and utilities need to be paid. Jim Finn 1 Quote

Careful i consigned to 3 different stores and everything disappeared and no body knows nothing.I'm impressed ,that if my work is good enough to steal that's a compliment to me.So no more thrift shops for me.
