Hi All,

Just finished staining wiseman #2. My problem now is do I varnish each individual piece or glue the pieces up for the front and the back and then varnish ??

Great job Don  I have not attempted this style of cutting yet but if it was me I would varnish after glued but that`s just me

Great piece! Do you have the complete set? Please show us when finished. 

I would glue first as I'm not sure how well the glue would adhere to the finish.

Very nicely done.  AS for the varnishing.. folks do it both ways/  Personally as long as you get the glue squeeze out cleaned off well varnishing after is the way I would approach it.

I agree with dave on this wondergully made project,Keep them coming!

For every intarsia piece I have made, I glue everything together and then apply the finish.
It seems less time consuming and the finish isn't necessary where it won't show.
That, of course, is just a matter of my opinion.
Great looking project! I am also eager to see you entire set.

Down Right AWESOME job.I have only done a few Intarsia.I finished mine with brush on clearcoat after I glued all the pieces together

Thanks everyone for the suggestions.

It looks as if I shall glue up and then varnish.

I may try a paste wax on later.

fabulous piece. I have never tried the 3 dimensional intarsia yet, but you are starting to push me in that direction

Well done with excellent wood choices.  The shaping is very good and brings a lifelike quality to it.

I would glue first and the use either a gel type finish or wipe on finished.  You will likely need to use small cotton swabs or tooth picks to finish in small areas.
