Don F Posted September 17, 2018 Report Posted September 17, 2018 What sanding mop grit do you use most? OCtoolguy 1 Quote
Scrappile Posted September 17, 2018 Report Posted September 17, 2018 I have the sanding mops from Klingspor and when I use them I use a 220 the most, I guess (I have 120, 220 and 320 grits). I seldom use them anymore because I purchased the Mac Mops and for my purposes I like them better. Of those I use 180 grit the most. I finishes about like 220 grit sand paper.. new2woodwrk Posted September 17, 2018 Report Posted September 17, 2018 I mostly use a 220 - but I'm going to be getting a few different grits soon OCtoolguy 1 Quote
Solution tgiro Posted September 18, 2018 Solution Report Posted September 18, 2018 Mostly 220 and 320. I have 150 and 180 that I use for easing edges of hard woods, but they don't get used that much. OCtoolguy 1 Quote

Don't feel too bad Ray... I've been going to buy just one of them someday now for about 12 years.. I still don't have one.. I did however run across one f these while shopping at Harbor Freight... Probably not as good as the sanding mop... but man I sure do like it and use it much more than I ever thought I would.. I bought another one for a spare the next time I stopped in there.. but have yet to wear the first one out.. Been about 8 months on just the one....I also noticed that it has a screw that comes out of the arbor that holds those scotchbrite pads on... I don't know if it's cost effective to buy just the pads and replace them or just buy a whole new one. since they don't really cost all that much... Now I just need a dedicated rill press for it.. actually like to get two drill presses.. one for my forstner bit for drilling the clock holes.. and one for my sanding..of coarse the one for drilling the pilot holes for my fretwork, LOL https://www.harborfreight.com/4-in-180-grit-abrasive-ball-61184.html Edited September 18, 2018 by kmmcrafts Quote

Now, I guess I'll have to invest in one. Quote

IKE Hi Ike, you made one I was thinking of doing this as well. I have some ideas how to go about it, but how did you make yours. I have gone to every store around here and no one has even heard of a sanding mop. Irene OCtoolguy 1 Quote
ike Posted November 1, 2018 Report Posted November 1, 2018 Got to sanding mop on you tube and find instructions there. That would be a lot easier than me explaining it I made mine a 6' mop. I drill press it on slow speed on my drill press. It takes about an hour to make and a lot of emery paper If you can't find it on You tube let me know and I will try and find it. Rockytime Posted November 2, 2018 Report Posted November 2, 2018 I bought a 6" sanding mop 220 grit from Klingspor a few months ago. I have no patience to make one. My only regret is waiting too long to buy one. It does everything I need to do. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
Sycamore67 Posted November 2, 2018 Report Posted November 2, 2018 A sanding mop is great and I have several both 4" and 6". I use the 4" in my portable drill. I also have a couple of Mac Mops. They are not as aggressive or grabby. I would not be without them. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
Macman Posted November 12, 2018 Report Posted November 12, 2018 Interesting thread. I can’t seem to find these in the U.K. They look ideal so I think I will try and make one. OCtoolguy 1 Quote

I'm thinking of making one but I'm not sure as to just how big. I bought a mandrel at H/F. I bought a roll of emery cloth on Amazon that is about 1 1/2" wide in 180 grit. What do you think? Quote
ike Posted November 27, 2018 Report Posted November 27, 2018 The one I made is a 6" 2 ' wide 150 grit. and it works fine on fretwork I used cloth backed I don't know how paper back will work . IKE Quote
