A few years ago in a microsecond of inattention I managed to nip a 1/4" piece out of the end of my thumb on my table saw. No ones fault but my own. It made me want to get a SawStop, but they were way out of reach of my budget.

Well today I can finally scratch that itch. My new SawStop Cabinet Saw is supposed to be delivered today, so I need to get my old Delta cleaned and packaged up for its new owner so I can make room for the new saw.professional-cabinet-saw_TGP236A_MB-PCS-000.thumb.jpg.4327a84d811af9d92d00534edd7e9813.jpg

Since my shop iis what used to be the garage the industrial mobile base was a must have. I also got the 36" upgraded fence and one each  extra brake cartridge for standard and dado blades. I looked at a couple of their other options, had a good laugh at the prices and passed them by. I can make a pretty fancy outfeed table for a lot less than $350!

I've been using the contractor saw for 4-1/2 years, now. It's a great saw, as well as the safety factor.

FAIR WARNING -- get a metal detector to check your wood. Nails or other bits of metal in the wood will trigger the brake. Mine triggered on a piece of wire embedded in an Oak board. The best we can figure is that it was some fencing that got embedded in the tree. Cost me an old, but perfectly good Forrest WoodWorker II blade.

This is what arrived in my garage yesterday! Total weight is just under 600 pounds!! (abit over 270 kilos)

It's going to take bit to get it all assembled, need to get a couple strong friends to lift the cabinet onto the base.

More when I finally get it together and cutting.

New2woodwrk, I would recommend starting a savings fund towards getting one, and keep your eye out for used ones, they do show up occasionally, and with the quality in the saw it would be a good investment.

How did you sell your Delta?

I'm in the same boat. Want a sawstop and have a Delta unisaw (1998 model) to sell. 50" with Biesmyer(sp?) fence.

congradulaions!!!  I got my first table saw this year for valentine times day.. !!! spike got it all set up for me but I have yet to use it as I havn't needed to , spikes used it and as you know while instructiog me on howto use it and to never take the safty thingy off  he promptly took the saftys off and cut a big cunck out of his thumb when he was cutting a big sheet of  1/4 inch Baltic burch into manageable sizes for me to  use.   I am happy to say that his thumb has healed up quite nicely but he will remember his accident every time he sees the scar it left on his thumb.  and that is because he refused to go to the ER to get stitches.  I let it go at that once I saw the bleeding stop.   but it was to big of a cut for me to even  put a butterfly on it....geezz!!! lol you men can be very unintelligent when your trying to be macho!!!

Couple of friends came over and we got the saw on its base. My son and I got the cast iron wing extensions mounted. The only gripe so far came when I tried to mount the housing for the power switch and electronics. You need fingers 7" long and with at least 7 joints each to get the screws started. Or another person! Really, just to mount the power controls?  Otherwise the fit and finish, and the quality of the color assembly/users manuals is beyond excellent.

At last the assembly is done! After finally getting the control box mounted, ( persistence and a couple cups of coffee plus letting it sit overnight) the rest of the assembly went pretty smooth. I have a good coat of paste wax drying on it right now, and nope, haven’t made a cut yet. I did find out it apparently draws quite a bit more at start up than the old 1.5hp Delta did. The surge protector outlet I had the old saw plugged into lasted about 0.6 seconds before popping!

Once I buff out the table I’ll finish aligning the extension table and fine tuning everything. Looking forward to using it.

How do you like the jobsite sawstop?

bb

It is small but accurate. It’s not cast like my old one. I can reach clear past the blade, important when cutting a box top off! (Don’t ask how I know). I use a track saw to break down plywood. The best part? It won’t cut me!
