Foxfold Posted March 19, 2020 Report Posted March 19, 2020 (edited) I belong to a forum here in the UK and there's been a lot of argument about the fact that 'gatherings' etc are no longer allowed. Quite a few people are somewhat disgruntled about this and are desperately trying to find ways around it by saying ''what is a gathering. 2/6/10/100 people ? I sent this to the forum this morning and I'm fully expecting to take a lot of flack for it, but people need to 'THINK'. Tony and I have locked our gates and cancelled all our summer engagements, are we happy about it ? No of course not, but my grandfather was sent to war, to put his life on the line as were many of that generation,, did they complain ???? All that this generation are being asked to do is sit on a couch for a month and you'd think the world had ended. IT'S NOT ABOUT YOU!!!! Fast-forward to two weeks from today . . . you wake up with a deep cough, a fever & your whole body aches. You don’t go to the doctor because they’re swamped & you know in your bones this is CV & you’ve been advised to stay at home for a while & self-isolate . . . So for the last two weeks you were unaware that you were infected; for the last two weeks you’ve lived your life as normal - work, family, shopping, gym (well, maybe gym!), pub, restaurant, church - refusing to even entertain the idea of ‘social distancing’ because ‘I don’t feel sick’. You spend a few days on the sofa feeling pretty groggy & sorry for yourself & then you’re well again. Because you’re young, healthy & invincible. Your 82-year-old grandmother you visited last week, the one who gets a flu jab every year? Not so lucky. Your best friend with diabetes? Not so lucky. Your neighbour who’s on chemo? Not so lucky. Your colleague who has undiagnosed cancer? Not so lucky. Edited March 19, 2020 by Foxfold spelling Wilson142, Old Joe, JimErn and 6 others 9 Quote
JustLarry Posted March 19, 2020 Report Posted March 19, 2020 Well said, Brenda. No flack from me. Desperate times require desperate measures. Desperate times do not require panic and loss of common sense. Stay calm, stay safe, stay well. Larry Quote
merlin Posted March 19, 2020 Report Posted March 19, 2020 Well said Brenda...Totally agree ..no flack from me Oh and keep safe to all who read this forum... Merlin... Quote
Charlie E Posted March 19, 2020 Report Posted March 19, 2020 Thanks Brenda. I think this, like most crises, shows people's true colors. I'm seeing mostly good which is encouraging. Quote
new2woodwrk Posted March 19, 2020 Report Posted March 19, 2020 With ya all the way! We are using this time to work in the wood shop, catch up on projects and just stay away from everyone. We're now at the point of using gloves to get our mail and disinfecting packages with alcohol spray. The very least any of us can do is listen to those that are closest to the problem and heed their advice. Quote
bandaideman Posted March 20, 2020 Report Posted March 20, 2020 point well taken. My dad is 98 and I keep in touch daily. Taking things seriously. Quote
Gordster Posted March 20, 2020 Report Posted March 20, 2020 Good idea Brenda,Isolation is the safe way to go.Everything here is closed, and health officials say that is a big part of not spreading the virus.Washing hands and not being in face to face contact is highly recommended. I am quite content to isolate and hopefully we will weather this storm. This virus started with an animal and humans are not immune to it as yet.this is why scientists are having trouble coming up with an antidote. Quote
Phantom Scroller Posted March 20, 2020 Report Posted March 20, 2020 My son is a manager at a college and has been sent home for 3 months because his wife is a key worker and has to be protected so this means we won't see the Grand kids for a while. So it's on the skype to talk to them. Stay safe all . Roly Quote

Well, unsurprisingly perhaps my post did cause 'grief' - a lot of 'sticks and stones' were thrown and I was asked by the Admin to remove my post.. Some people are just beyond help. !!! meflick 1 Quote
Jim McDonald Posted March 22, 2020 Report Posted March 22, 2020 That post, or something very similar, was posted by Brian May (Queen guitarist) to his Instagram account and got zillions of likes. I sell heavy truck parts, so we are staying open to keep the wheels turning, but I would pray that common sense begins to bloom in certain gardens where it has never grown before. This is a time to think of the greater good. I say that after spending much of my young adulthood in fire, rescue and ems. Foxfold and Charlie E 2 Quote
