"Cat".  I have to keep reminding myself that "dark feline shape with lighter stripe down the middle is....cat."  :)

Yeah, I've got a wire or two loose in my head.

I'm with Steve/LoftyHermes on this one, mostly.  For drawer pulls, I'd do something like a cat-nose for the upper drawer, and a bow tie or something for the lower drawer.

Nice work Brenda. Your friend is sure to love it. I only flock the inside of the drawers themselves. As far as handles, I was thinking you could use a longer, thinner handle small curve or straight for a mouth, or a small round or heart shaped knob for a nose. If I was doing the mouth, I would add eyes and nose in someway. If doing the nose, could probably get by with just the “nose”. Look forward to seeing it finished once you decide.

excellent work and for your questions, the only one I can answer is always wax wood. it makes it pop and when done, doesn't even feel like wood.

Mmm, it's already had 4 coats of DO so do I still wax even though it won't touch the wood ?

Love the box.

I would still put on the wax.  Wax does not penetrate the wood, even if no finish is already on the wood.  It provides very little protection to the piece, but it does add a very nice look and feel.  Just be sure to let the oil dry for a week or so to be sure it is completely cured before waxing.

Well, I've had a second attempt at making  bandsaw box and it's almost finished.  I wanted to do it for my best friends birthday in July.  Several questions if I may.

1) Do you think it's 'good' enough to be given as a present ?   I can't think of a project I've done that I'd call perfect. Think back on recent stuff I can point out one or more attributes that I wish I'd done better. I give stuff away and sometimes sell my services. Only you can answer that question.......

2) What sort of 'handles' do you think would suit it ? This is just my  2 cents but you must have a button stash and I'll bet you can fashion a clever drawer pull from there.

3) Can I put a wax on it ?  It's had 4 coats of Danish Oil .  As long as the oil is fully dry and not bleeding back at all, wax should be fine.

4) When I flock the inside of the drawers should I also flock the hole for the drawers ? I don't flock, I cut and glue in felt. I think it's a better look and feel.

I'd love some feedback on this as I'm a complete newbie in box making and would appreciate any criticism or pointers.

An excellent piece Brenda. I would give it a wax polish. I would only flock the inside of the drawers. I would go with the RabidAlien suggestions of a cat nose and a bow tie, this is an ideal time to use the little pieces of burr wood that you have squirrelled away "for a special project"

Sorry for the delay as life got busy. DO especially soaks I to the grains which is why it pops so much. The wax finish gives the texture smoothness. So when feeling the wood after the wax, it is smooth as a baby’s bottom.

👍👍 Yes, it will make a wonderful gift. I've never flocked the hole the drawer slides into but I've used peel and stick felt on the bottom and half way up the sides. It filled the kerf nicely allowing the drawer to slide quietly in and out.

What an amazing piece. WOW.
If your mate don't like it, I'll throw my hat into the ring. :)
They are sure to love it.

Sorry I saw this thread a little late,
if you think it requires a wax go for it, It'll be a little work but the more elbow grease you put in the better the lustre you get out.
I would be tempted to place eyes and a nose on the cat, using the nose as a pull.
Once again, a superb piece and a magnificent gift.
