courtym74 Posted May 19, 2021 Report Posted May 19, 2021 Has anyone else had a brand new blade simply flat out refuse to cut a straight line? I was about five blades deep into a package of Olsen #2 reverse tooth blades and the fifth one just would not cut straight. It kept running off to one side or the other. Swapped it out after scrapping the piece and no problems. Any thoughts? OCtoolguy 1 Quote
FrankEV Posted May 19, 2021 Report Posted May 19, 2021 I have found brand new blades that feel dull from the get go. When dull they don't track very well, mainly because you have to push too hard and any little bit of sideward pushing will take you off line. Any chance you had the blade in upside down? An upside down blade will alos feel dull and, again, not track very well. I have very rarely found this to be true with the Pegas blades I use, but have found a few. When a new balde feels dull making me push too hard, I will immediately take it out and deep six it. For some reason the manufacturing process must screw up a blade or two occasionally. TAIrving Posted May 19, 2021 Report Posted May 19, 2021 Good question. I too occasionally have a blade that will not track true. I will be watching for more replies on this question. For me more often it is a blade I have been using for a while, not so much new blades. When that happens I just pitch the blade and put in a new one, life is too short to put up with that. WolfmoonCT Posted May 22, 2021 Report Posted May 22, 2021 I've had brand new blades not track straight.. not very often, but I've had it. courtym74 1 Quote
Rockytime Posted May 22, 2021 Report Posted May 22, 2021 Blades that don't track well are the fault of a dull blade or lack of tension. Very seldom the fault of a new blade although it's possible. courtym74 1 Quote
Jim McDonald Posted May 22, 2021 Report Posted May 22, 2021 I have blades that seemed to never give up and then the next one from the same dozen wouldn't cut an eggshell. Some blades are just ill-tempered. courtym74 and Gene Howe 2 Quote
courtym74 Posted May 22, 2021 Author Report Posted May 22, 2021 Thank you everyone for the replies. Frank I'm pretty certain I had it in right. I keep a pair of cheaters by my saw nowadays just for the purpose of changing the smaller blades. (Can't always see the space where the teeth switch and don't have enough sensitivity in my fingers anymore to tell on the small ones) With what I've seen here I'm thinking it must have just been a random dull one that maybe didn't get stamped out exactly right. There's been some in the past but only a handful over the years. I do remember having one pack that literally would break within moments of starting to cut. They must not have been tempered correctly. The next pack was fine as frog hair. | Jim, I'm right there with you on that scenario as well. Thanks everyone! FrankEV 1 Quote
