When I open or save in Inkscape I do not get the standard Windows menu I get the black screen below.  What I am looking for is the typical windows file explorer menu. Does anyone know the preference for this.  Currently using 1.2 but same thing occurred in 1.1  Thanks

I must confess to using 'save as' because that takes me to my own folders.  Wouldn't know how to do it with the inkscape page you've shown. 🤣  Not much help to you but thought I'd put my tuppence worth in. x

I think the standard is to take you to your own folders.  I took the Logos by Nick course and you can ask questions there.  Nick did not have the answer which is really odd as he knows Inkscape inside and out.  I kept on googling thill I realized that preferences has a search feature and found the save feature.

I just updated to Inkscape 1.2 and it has some neat features that I hopefully will outline for pattern makers shortly.

I did some looking and found a way to change the file location destination for using the save command:

The file path is:  PC/AptData/Roaming/Inkscape/preferences.xml

scroll down to where the file destination file name is and change it to your desired location.

You may have to change the setting before hand to "show hidden files".
