rafairchild2 Posted June 18, 2023 Report Posted June 18, 2023 I am working on cutting out a beach scene, and cannot find a decent wood with blue in it. I was hoping to find beetle killed or something else like Poplar with blue highlights. I am getting a bit desperate and was thinking of using some lighter-shaded black limba and some watered-down blue dye or airbrush paint watered down, but that really goes against Intarsia from a purist point of view. Any suggestions? Quote
Dave Monk Posted June 18, 2023 Report Posted June 18, 2023 Now and then I find a piece of blue pine at Lowes. Quote
preprius Posted June 18, 2023 Report Posted June 18, 2023 bodies of water can come in different colors... red sea, muddy mississippi, purple oceans during certain sunsets. I have added a bit (2 drops) of blue to enhance "purple heart." I put the drops in clear satin finish. Quote

I will try with a scrap and see how enhancing with "two drops" of blue will do. Quote

Jim Finn Posted August 8, 2023 Report Posted August 8, 2023 The blue of Dave Monk is your best bet, I think. Outside that I would use some green of poplar in its place. Quote

Scrappile Posted August 8, 2023 Report Posted August 8, 2023 My local Home Depot has blue pine that is for paneling. I away check it out when I go there. Have not bought any because I am on a much tighter budget than I use to be. I won't go into reason, would be to political. Quote
Rolf Posted August 9, 2023 Report Posted August 9, 2023 As has been said a light blue wash on curly maple. but since your piece is already cut, I hope you have some scraps. Play with rubbing in some different blues. Acrylic paint. that has worked for me. On this piece I went a different route. I needed to do the sky, It is something I designed from a 1922 family relatives painting. Had the background printed on textured paper by a local framer. The Goldfinch background is a piece of resawn and bookmatched blue pine. Both are my designs and patterns are not available. jollyred and Dave Monk 2 Quote
