don watson Posted August 25, 2023 Report Posted August 25, 2023 Hi All, I am looking for a double line font that I can cut on the scroll saw but can't seem to find any as I keep getting side tracked. Does anyone have a scrollable double line font I can use to get extruded/indented lettering. Just a plain Arial type font will do nothing fancy. I will need to use it about 1 1/2" to 2" (one and a half to two inches high). I use Inkscape and Gimp if that helps. Quote
Wichman Posted August 25, 2023 Report Posted August 25, 2023 I don't know how to do this within Inkscape itself, but here is my work around: Open, Open Office Writer, type some text, highlight the text. Go to (at the top pull down menu) Format > text > select "outline font effect". Your text should be in the outline style. Cut to clipboard ( ctrl c or x ) Paste into Inkscape text should now be in outline style. The outline style will continue until you remove it. don watson 1 Quote

FrankEV Posted October 13, 2023 Report Posted October 13, 2023 I'm confused...but that is easy to do. Not to answer the question directly but this is just an FYI. In Inkscape, most (maybe all)) font I have used to create a text, using the 'Create and Edit Text Objects (T)' command, results in an Outline and Fill for each letter. The outline and fill can be changed using the 'Fill and Stroke" command. Black and Black will look like standard lettering, but you can make Red outline and light grey fill so you can follow the line when cutting rather than the edge of a big black letter. You can also change the line thickness (like I do to .005") to suit your preference. In my Font listing I have added a bunch of what is considered "Scrollable Font" that already have bridges and connectors for Script. I use the 'Ttext and Font' command to select the font I want and set as default for the project I'm creating. I used these commands when I created the word WELCOME in my latest project posted in Bragging Rights: Eagle Welcome Plaque by Good – Modified . Here is the pattern where the outline of the leter is .005" thick Red lines and the fill is clear. I'm still confused as to what the Don was actually ;looking for, but maybe this may help some who use Inkscape.. Quote
Wichman Posted October 13, 2023 Report Posted October 13, 2023 Frank, How do you get to the "outline and fill" for each letter? I just can't find it. Linux, inkscape 1.3 Quote

Linux, inkscape 1.3 Open the text, you preiously typed in, with the object pointer (top left side bar) and treat the text as an object. From top bar click on Object and then chose Fill and Stroke. To change line weight choose Stroke Style, scroll up to in (inches) and type in the width you like. While the object box is still open, go down to collor bar and do a hold shift/chose a color. The letter outline will change to the color you choose. Again while the object box is open with one click just select the fill color you want. No color (clear)is the X left end of color bar. Hope that works for you. You can't do one letter at a time, unless you only type one letter. You treat the text string as an object. Not sure how I did it, but my text defaults to Red outline and light grey fill. If I want solid black I have select black and black. Edited October 13, 2023 by FrankEV Quote
Wichman Posted October 13, 2023 Report Posted October 13, 2023 Okay, just tested Frank's suggestion, works like a charm and is exactly the same as using the word possessor ( it just does the work for you ). Frank, if you need just a solid letter, you can select zero for the stroke width. Also the stroke width can be accessed from Fill/stoke box at the bottom left of the Inkscape screen. right click on the box and a pop up menu with In/mm/pixel and then common line widths Quote
