Popular Post GrampaJim Posted March 23, 2024 Popular Post Report Posted March 23, 2024 (edited) Made this for a friend who is a duck hunter. I used Butternut, Mahogany, Walnut and Aspen. The head is Poplar with a green paint wash. Edited March 23, 2024 by GrampaJim Dave Monk, Dak0ta52, BadBob and 15 others 18 Quote
TAIrving Posted March 23, 2024 Report Posted March 23, 2024 Very nice Jim! I love the choices of different types of wood for the different parts of the duck and pond. I have a question about the wood you used. I see the butternut for the beak and the aspen for the tail and ring around the neck and I see the walnut for the darker parts. So the lighter brown parts must all be mahogany. But I see 2 distinct shades of medium brown, one more yellow and the other with a slight pinkish glow. Are these 2 different pieces of mahogany? Or is there yet another wood that you did not tell us about? Inquiring minds want to know. Quote
Zoot Fenster Posted March 23, 2024 Report Posted March 23, 2024 Gorgeous! Love the walnut shadow. Quote

Actually the beak is Yellowheart, The Butternut is most of the body, and the mahogany is most of the "water." If/when I make another one, I will probably change some things, maybe Cherry for the body and something else for the water. TAIrving 1 Quote

MarieC Posted March 26, 2024 Report Posted March 26, 2024 Jim, Wonderfully done. Absolutely awesome! Could you explain how you did the "green paint wash" was it actually paint?....If so was it acrylic? or was it a dye? Thanks! Quote
GrampaJim Posted March 26, 2024 Author Report Posted March 26, 2024 I just grabbed some craft paint (acrylic)that was sitting around, put some in a cup and mixed in some water. The poplar was green already, but I was trying to delay how green poplar turns brown. Quote
