Popular Post Scrollshrimp Posted August 21, 2024 Popular Post Report Posted August 21, 2024 Hello all, I've been away from the scroll saw for a couple of months as I've been building my N Gauge model railway. I have never built anything like this before but I fancied having a go. To be honest it was watching Artisan Pirate that gave me the inspiration to try and build something. I know he likes his model trains as well as being a very accomplished scroll saw artist so thanks to him. A quick description of the layout then, It measures 6 feet x 4 feet, all the buildings are card kits by Metcalfe models and assembled by me. There are 2 steam locomotives and a selection of wagons by Graham Farish and Peco. The rocks I made from foam pipe insulation which were sealed with PVA glue then painted The track was ballasted with N scale Legacy ballast and the landscaping was made with Woodland Scenics blended turf. A selection of trees and bushes from Amazon adding a bit of detail. There are still some finishing touches to add but as with anything there is no rush to finish. Thanks once again to Artisan Pirate for the inspiration, Regards, Alan. Roberta Moreton, JTTHECLOCKMAN, TAIrving and 8 others 10 1 Quote
dgman Posted August 21, 2024 Report Posted August 21, 2024 Very nice layout! I used to be into HO gauge. Had to disassemble it when we moved thirty five years ago. Unfortunately, it never got reassembled. I still have a G scale set I used to set up around the Christmas tree when my son was little. He’s 31 now, so it just sits and collects dust now. jerry walters Posted August 21, 2024 Report Posted August 21, 2024 Nicely done Alan. My understanding is model railroading is kinda like scrolling. Once bit you can't stop. Have fun with both your hobbies. Jerry Quote

I feel your pain. We built a layout in HO when our son was around 8. He's now 54. I have no idea what became of it. I just know that we spent a lot of money on building it. It was fun thougj. I still love trains. We've ridden on many of them. Quote
rjweb Posted August 21, 2024 Report Posted August 21, 2024 I really like your layout, when I retired I needed a hobby I was thinking woodworking or trains, choose woodworking, but still have the desire to build a train layout, RJ OCtoolguy 1 Quote

Hawk Posted August 26, 2024 Report Posted August 26, 2024 Back in the day I was very into "N" gage. I was still single and converted my entire basement into a layout. Talk about a money vacuum! When I finally moved the trains went by the way never to return. Couldn't see much point in something that only I would ever see. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
nrscroller Posted September 24, 2024 Report Posted September 24, 2024 HI That is very nice, I not only am a scroller but have been a model railroader for many years. I model HO scale and just setup a switching layout for myself to run. Bill in Wisconsin OCtoolguy 1 Quote

Gonzo Posted October 3, 2024 Report Posted October 3, 2024 Nice work! I too was into model railroading, HO scale. I had a 4x10(?) layout. I loved, loved, loved building and modeling it. Running the trains was actually kind of boring. Scratch building was a lot of fun as was making my own trees. Good times, good times indeed. Quote
