Mike Crosa Posted November 16, 2024 Report Posted November 16, 2024 I work in a small shed and I recently purchased a small vacuum cleaner at Harbor Freight. The hose connection is 1.25" and the Pegas scroll saws connection is 2 1/2". I ordered an adapter that went from 2.5 to 1.25. Great I thought. The item arrived and the adapter is exactly the same size as the hose and the Pegas. I thought that the adapter would be made of rubber and I would be able to slip it on the hose and Pegas conncector. No Joy. My question is there such a thing as rubber connector that I can use or is there another solution to my problem? Thanks for any help. Mike OCtoolguy 1 Quote
Scrappile Posted November 16, 2024 Report Posted November 16, 2024 I have been able to heat PVC connectors and slip them over some things when they are the same size. They stay the new size when cool. That may work if they are PVC or some similar material. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
Mike Crosa Posted November 16, 2024 Author Report Posted November 16, 2024 The connector is of ABS material. Do you think heating it would work? OCtoolguy 1 Quote
Scrappile Posted November 16, 2024 Report Posted November 16, 2024 I do not know. You could try unless you plan on returning what you purchased. But wait a bit someone on here may know. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
jollyred Posted November 17, 2024 Report Posted November 17, 2024 In the plumbing section of home improvement centers, you can find rubber connectors of many sizes. They can be a bit pricey but they will do the job if you can find the right size. I have made connectors from pvc pipe formed with heat to fit over the tool fitting, and a pvc adapter to fit the pipes. This shows how the heat process works. Tom OCtoolguy 1 Quote
Wichman Posted November 17, 2024 Report Posted November 17, 2024 You can use a plastic water or soda bottle. Get one a little larger than the connectors. Enjoy the beverage. Cut the top and bottom off. Heat with a hair dryer or heat gun. Shrink to fit. Easy, peasy. ( I have a bottle from the family dollar in front of me that is 3" in diameter ( one liter bottle ) ) ScrollerGuy and OCtoolguy 2 Quote

I had to look into this and found a video that shows what you described. https://hackaday.com/2017/03/23/soda-bottles-used-as-heat-shrink-for-wood-joinery/ OCtoolguy, Wichman and barb.j.enders 3 Quote
BadBob Posted November 17, 2024 Report Posted November 17, 2024 I have heated adapters to get them to fit tools. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
OCtoolguy Posted November 17, 2024 Report Posted November 17, 2024 Go to Home Depot and check out the different accessory fittings in the vac section. I bought a couple of the small tubes that you put together to make the long wand. They are great to heat and pretty much make what you need. If they are too small in diameter, step up the the next size. A few minutes with a heat gun and you will have just what you need. You may have to glue a couple together to get what you want. Who knew that it might turn into another hobby. Vacuum fitting forming. Roberta Moreton 1 Quote
Mike Crosa Posted November 18, 2024 Author Report Posted November 18, 2024 Going to try heating the abs fixture. Will keep everyone posted. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
kmmcrafts Posted November 18, 2024 Report Posted November 18, 2024 Hmm, There was someone here that was 3d printing a different connector for the EX and Pegas saws and selling them on etsy.. My shop vac has the bigger hose than many, I don't remember the size maybe 2 1/2? anyway the hose fits right on my Excalibur dust port. But some of my old shop vac tools was the smaller size maybe like you have.. I bought a adapter at Menards in the vacuum section they had a whole isle of fittings and tools so as Ray said.. check out your local stores as I believe most have vacuum adapters etc. OCtoolguy 1 Quote

He did send me a couple to try on my saws. They didn't fit flat to the underside of the table and the magnets that were supposed to hold them on were way too weak. I have them sitting somewhere in my shop awaiting a "fix" at some point. A great idea but in need of some refinement. The port where you hook up the vac hose needs to be tapered so the hose stays on. That reminds me of something I did about 12 years ago.. I seen a nice necklace that was hand stamped with kids names and wanted to get one for my wife.. Darn thing was close to $100 if I remember right.. so I went on a mission to find some of the metal disc and stamps.. By the time I bought the stamps and a few packs of the metal disc. as it had a different metal and size disc per name so I had stainless and brass and aluminum and I think copper. Anyway it's a bit harder to line up those letters on the stamps in the disc than I would have thought and by the time I scrapped a few disc and the money on the stamps etc.. the necklace I made ended up being around $300 and I still had to get a chain to make, .. At least I can say I made it.. and never did tell how much cost went into this let alone the research to find all the stuff since I had no idea about making jewelry.. Thankfully she showed some coworkers and I ended up selling a few and made some of my money back. LOL barb.j.enders 1 Quote
