Garry Brpwine Posted September 11, 2025 Report Posted September 11, 2025 Retired years ago, transplant from FL... crafter in everything $$$$$$ . Currently a newbie so to speak as a wood turner and looking at using a scroll saw for this Bowl -n- Board for making bowls by cutting rings .750 thick out of lumber or glue ups.. Being of that age when you can't see or remember very good I looking for a widget. Scroll Saw Blade Gauge I had one years ago, looks like a machinist 6 inch scale, lay your blade on the scale and move back and forth till it lines up with the marks, this will tell you the tooth count, scale on back shows a silhouette of the different styles of blade. It handy for used blades, or blades found elsewhere in the shop just a quick reference so don't have to get the calipers and magnifying loupe out to count and squint an $%^&*. Quote
preprius Posted September 11, 2025 Report Posted September 11, 2025 Hi Garry: Welcome to the village. I have not heard of a tool that quickly identifies scroll saw blades. There are so many styles of blades now-a-days. Reverse tooth, Crown, double crown, double skip etc.. But maybe just take a known used blade and epoxy it to a board sharpie the size / teeth count on the board. It is great fun to do board to bowl. I feel bowls makes scrollsaw project more a daily useable project. It will be great to see some of your glue up bowls. They might take a bit longer than a lathe but it starts out with less wood and can be pretty and decorative. you can check my gallery and find the "how to " on this site. How to article. Me.
