I got a beautiful 3/4 in thick piece of purple heart from Ocooch hardwoods and want to cut the outline of my home state.( Texas ) I figure it's going to be a chore and may require more than a few blades. I use FD blades and am wondering what size and style might be best. Any recommendations would be appreciated./.. Thanks.....Forrest

i did a purple heart 2" x 2" thick. I started with Pegas #7 mgt (reverse) but I had some tight turns to deal with so dropped down to #3 mgt.  So I had to adapt.  I also had to rework some corners due to pushing left or right.

So 3/4" thick would be good for pegas #5 mgt.   Or super skip #5.

Purple heart can be a bit rough on back side (tiny splits) so I like reverse blades. If the back side is not going to be viewable the super skips or double skip blades would be much better.

I have cut these heart boxes out of purple heart using a FD #1 Polar blade. I use the Polar blade because of the tightness of the curves and the size of kerf for the sliding dovetail in the top. I lost the heart shaped pin in the box and had to cut another to fit, these boxes start out life as a 1 1/2" cube of wood.

Also, I used Varathane brand, "Black Cherry" stain on the first heart box shown, a very, very good match for color.

THANKS to everyone for the replies. Seems like # 5 or # 7 size is going to be The go to blades for my project. I'll have to study up on the styles. Thanks again....Forrrst....By the way, those are some nice pieces shown above.
