Popular Post don in brooklin on Posted September 30, 2025 Popular Post Report Posted September 30, 2025 I thought I would give a try to AI to generate a pattern of a Halloween Gnome. I asked Chat GPT for a "line art of Halloween gnome" and got back this image. I then stacked a 1/8 and 1/4 bb. Just cut the perimeter of the gnome ignoring the objects out side this(moon , cob web etc.) and the interior cuts. Now cut the interior segments. Real easy no playing in Inkscape. Beard doesn't show well but used mixture of drywall paint and white acrylic I also used Copilot and it came back with a very similar pattern. danny, Dan, ChelCass and 8 others 11 Quote
Scrappile Posted September 30, 2025 Report Posted September 30, 2025 Pretty neat! I wonder if AI could put in bridges to make a fretwork scroll saw piece. Quote
Hudson River Rick Posted September 30, 2025 Report Posted September 30, 2025 @don in brooklin on Thank you Don, I can't wait to try this. I am a self proclaimed GNOME-A-HOLIC.. Thanks for sharing. Rick ChelCass 1 Quote
rjweb Posted September 30, 2025 Report Posted September 30, 2025 Question, is AI going to replace all the fine pattern designers ?, RJ Quote
Denny Knappen Posted October 1, 2025 Report Posted October 1, 2025 Yes, very cute, but not a fan of AI Quote

If this makes sense "it's scary good" for the non designers it's a fun tool to have but for the designers it has to be worrisome Fab4(Paul) Dave Monk 1 Quote

Dave Monk Posted October 3, 2025 Report Posted October 3, 2025 7 hours ago, BadBob said: I can see how that would work. I asked for an image of an intarsia pattern of a Gnome Santa. Then I asked it to put a bag in his hand. Then I asked it to add a sleigh behind. I usually ask it several different times. It always comes up with something different. Then I pick the image I like best and put it into inkscape and trace it to make the pattern. Sometime I even combine a couple images to get what I like. The first image is what AI gave me. The second is my pattern and the third is my finished project. Fab4, ChelCass, JackJones and 2 others 4 1 Quote

JTTHECLOCKMAN Posted October 3, 2025 Report Posted October 3, 2025 I think the you did a good job with the pattern. Not a fan of the pumpkin face in the hat though. It distracts from the Gnome theme. I may have to play with that program some. Have some ideas. I am guessing it takes some key words to get a good pattern and if you change those key words but still mean same subject matter it would change pattern. Quote
